70K Blackstone Oil Analysis

thought I’d share my Oil report at 70k miles. 10k miles between changes (0w-20) since it was new. Lots of idling and Towing on this round and everything still looks great.

 

Their logo looks like the “cold stone” Lol.


That looks like they used an ICP-MS instrument to get the elements listed there. The units must be milligrams per kilogram (mg/KG aka “ppm”, parts per million ). I run analysis like this all the time at work. Humm wonder if I should use our instruments to analyze my oil lol. Can even run GCMS to get a breakdown of the hydrocarbons in the oil. The other measurements look like physical techniques. I wonder how they measure the %water ? Maybe a Karl Fischer coulometric titration? They probably then correlate the water number they get to arrive at the antifreeze value.

Oh and I don’t have any clue what the numbers mean for ur engine . Sorry just nerding out.

Iv added a water based oil in my engine

 

Pretty sure Toyota had lots of water-based oil back when they still made the Tacoma engines in Japan. They all had leaky head gaskets. Thankfully Toyota moved engine production to the USA where fellas know how to fit a gasket.

You forgot about riot season! It is easy to miss because it falls right around protests and demonstrations. It's the one time of the year we're immune from getting COVID!

 

If you wanna make a real Friday post, you gotta say you are running 10W30 dino-oil, cause it’s better for towing.
