    Good evening all,

I'm taking my truck in for its 60,000 maintenance tomorrow. I bought the truck Certified Pre-Owned, so the warranty is good through 100,000 miles or I think 7 years.

It seems that this is the first major maintenance for these trucks and I've been nervous about the potential bill, however I hadn't looked at the actual maintenance guide yet.

According to this, all that will need to be done is:

    • Oil filter
    • Engine oil
    • Sparkplugs
    • Re-torque propeller shaft bolt (honestly not sure what this is or if it's necessary)
    • Lubricate propeller shaft (same thing, not sure what that is lol)
    • Top off fluids
    • General inspections
I got taken for a ride and replace the cabin air filter and engine air filter at 50,000, so those are done for now.

What did you guys shell out for a 60k service at a dealer? I want to keep my warranty intact and keep the truck running well, but don't want to buy unnecessary parts.

What parts were toast by the 60,000 mark, if any? My clutch still feels good and I'm on pavement the majority of the time, so I think I might be okay skipping the 4x4 service. Just a little stressed and planning to take it in tomorrow evening.

    Appreciate all of your help

You should be able to get 100k out of the factory clutch.

I would do spark plugs, coolant drain and fill, front diff fluid, rear diff fluid, transfer case fluid and power steering flush. You might inspect the serpentine belt as well, but it's probably fine. Transmission fluid drain and fill might be worthwhile too. Manual trans are easy compared to automatics, just drain and fill with the same amount.

All of these services are easy to diy aside from the 3 spark plugs on the drivers side, which are a little difficult to access. They're relatively inexpensive if you buy the supplies and do the work yourself too.

I would highly suggest trying to do some of these services yourself or finding a trusted local shop. Any dealer is going to charge out the wazoo for labor.

If you going to dealer, expect that bill to be outrageously high. That maintenance has no impact on your warranty. Some change plugs at 60k and lot go much further 100k. Prop shaft is your drive shaft. I would find out if transfer case, and diff fluids were ever changed. That concern me the most. From what I've seen people pay for plug change $300- $500 depending on what you have them do, you could be $1000+

How would you go about figuring out if the diff fluid and transfer case fluid have ever been drained? I never really trust what the dealer says, but I bought the truck used at 40k and so I don't know all its history off the top of my head. Is all of this information included on Carfax or on a log I can get printed from the dealer? Part of why I continue to take it to Toyota is for the continuity; if I'm not confident I can even see if the fluid's been drained before, then I guess there's no point in going to the dealer in the first place lol.

I feel like I could do some of this other than the plugs. Going to take it in tonight just to see what they quote for everything. I'm at 59,500 right now so I'm trying to get ahead of it.

It maybe on carfax if dealer did it. They usually list everything when in for service. You can also check drain plugs to see if any evidence of removal. My guess they haven't been change, since you bought it at 40k miles.

Price list I got from the local dealer if anyone's interested. He said this is last year's rates, but everything is the same +$5 now.

Decided to hold off on everything except fluids, oil change and tire rotation. Thinking maybe I'll get the plugs done around 65,000.
