I just want to start by saying if you just going to talk sheet about DB lifts then close the thread.

Ive read a lot on this site and am sick of scrolling through all the threads. I started this thread as I wanted true input from people who have or had this kit installed on their 3rd Gen Taco.
The truck I’m looking to install this on is a 2017 TRD Sport.

-what are the pros and cons?
-what wheel offset or backspacing works best?
-should I upgrade right away to alcan leafs instead of blocks?
-if I want to keep stock rake should I go with 6” lift in rear instead of 4” blocks that come with the kit?

any answers would be extremely helpful.

Well I was about to link the 6" suspension sub forum but you're already on that I see.

Only 2 things I can say for sure are

1: you (most likely installer) will have to cut your cross member to install front
4: Alcan makes a great product and it'll be better than blocks. You can upgrade later if you want or try blocks first. Not sure what you're going for endgame wise but people do in fact offroad 6"...look at brute force fab vehicle

Seems like the CMC is minor compared to whats required to install the rest of the kit.

Yes me and the potential installer know the cross member must be cut for the DB install.

I was just simply asking what size tire will clear without it with the proper offset wheel.
I have done a lot of research and see conflicting answers as to if this needs to be done or not.

Please don’t link another thread as I’ve probably been on them all multiple times. Been scrolling for weeks lol

What size wheels you looking at? I'd look for neg offset around -10. 0 offset will likely rub on the UCA.

Anything larger than 265s will likely require cmc.

Looking at 285/75/R18 cooper sst pro with 18x9 wheels with -12 offset which they claim is 4.53 backspacing but I believe they are referring to vs a stock rim but not sure. The kit I’m looking at is the BDS 6” fox coil over with adjustable resevoir and the uca’s bds offers.

    CMC is cab mount chop?

Yeah youtube it. Can be done in about 2-3hrs by most mechanics that knows how to weld. If you have any plans on 33's+, I'd get it done from the get go.

i guess that wasn’t the main part of my post. Mostly looking for people who have this lift and what their opinions where. Honestly going to remove that item as cmc is not that big of deal and had read that it’s not necessary to do the cmc with this lift unless you run the wrong offset wheel

actually the things I would more like answered is are their ways to piece together the same kit without buying parts for no reason ie blocks if replacing leafs or coils that will handle bumpers and extra weight without replacing before installed.

anything larger than 265 with a 6” lift? You can easily run 33”s with a 6” with no cmc we have tons of tacomas here running 33”s on 20x12 rims

I’m currently on this bds kit with my coil overs cranked up to about 7.25” in the front and a 3” block on top OME Dakar HDs in the rear for a total of 6” lift in the rear. I clear my 295/70/17s on 17x8 wheels with 0mm offset and 1.5” spacers. I am looking to go to 35s later this year and am certain I will clear those with my current set up fairly easily as well. I will mention I did a CMC on my passenger side prior to the 6” lift because I was rubbing on a 2.5” lift with the same whee/tire setup, but I don’t come even close to rubbing with the BDS lift.

I plan on running 285/75r18 which is essentially a 35”x11” tire I believe

Don’t quote me but I’m pretty sure that setup will clear any rubbing issues even without cranking up the coil overs

Do you notice any axle twist from the blocks? I was looking to go to alcan and have 6” lift springs made just because blocks seem chinssy to me

Also I assume your stock rims work because of the spacers? On BDS website says need 18x9 wheels for the kit to work.

I’ve looked into what’s required for getting the correct leaf packs for the lift I want and it isn’t a road I feel I’d like to go down just yet. If you go with Alcan, they recommend you change out the hanger/shackle assembly which is another $500 on top the already $1000 leaf packs. Lol
I only have 3” blocks so other than having driveline vibes initially I didn’t notice a difference

Bigger as in wider yes. 35x12.5s

saw a Jeep at work on 37x13.5s and I was jealous but I doubt you can fit 37s without some modifying on a Tacoma.

plan on running a 18x9 with what they list as -12 offset but says 4.53 backspace? The only thing I can think of is they are comparing offset as if the stock rim is at 0? I’m pretty sure stock are 17x8 with +30 offset? Can’t remember what I read.

pretty sure you will be able to clear those tires if not you could adjust the coilover for more lift.

    Sorry I made a typo.
LT295/70R18 This is size I was looking at. Cooper lists it in inches as 34.49”x12”
