Takes less than 15 min to install. Sounds great after the 3500 rpm VVTi changeover. I can feel a slight difference in mid rpm especially and when driving on highway since I have a 6 speed manual and the rpm's are much higher than an auto.

Taking a decent trip after work so we will see how gas mileage goes.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but is it just the K&N Air Filter and a replacement tube? Seem's like a lot of money, and hard to see how it is going to make that much difference, other than resonate at a different level. The last K&N CAI I bought was for a Honda S2000, it was a complete box that moved the air intake to the front of the car to pull cooler air in, and a more direct pathway to the intake. Even with this, there was no perceptible difference in performance, only sound on full throttle. This one doesn't seem to make a lot of change to the actual air flow. The K&N Oiled air filter for the Taco is less than $60, how much difference would the tube make in performance? I'm perplexed.

    Nice!
I had k and n on my previous truck (ranger) and it made a pretty big difference in throttle response, and some more power at lower rpms. The stock air box was tiny on the ranger, so it was worth it. Was very pricey though, like 650$.

Currently, I just have the intake accelerator and trd filter, waiting on a tube without the resonator, i want some more noise , haha!

The stock air box is same as tundra, so im sure taco gets more air than it needs.

Exactly that, the box is large enough for a 5.7L Tundra, surely it's plenty for a 3.5L !, i also dropped in a K&N, also a cabin air filter by K&N !

    It is.

I never had issues in any of my previous vehicles with K&N, so i dont know why so many people hate it.

This might turn out into a pretty good friday thread.:stirthepot:

I was also waiting for the haters......Since I paid $0, because it was a present, I really feel like I got a great bang for the buck! To the others yes there is an improvement that is perceptible in throttle response and very slight power gains in the middle to higher end of the rpm band. I can also notice a difference while in 6th gear on the highway.

I can see the economy of replacing the OEM air filters with the K&N over a number of years (probably hit the break even point for me in about 3 yrs), but I don't see this setup adding anything performance wise at all. I have used K&N filters in dirt bikes for years, and have used them in my last three trucks, and bought the CAI for the S2000. It is nice to be able to clean, refill and reuse, especially now with the oil spray cans instead of the old bottles. With the dirt bikes in really dusty conditions, it was thought that the oiled filters were more efficient. A standard filter may only last a short while before needing cleaning, so the payback is pretty quick, with a road vehicle, not so much, but it will still save money over time. A $60 investment has a reasonable chance to have a return on investment, but for $200, not so much. Maybe I am looking at it wrong, but I just don't see the point. If I wanted it for looks I would go for the TRD Air Intake, and it would probably be better when the time comes to sell. If it was for performance, maybe something like the Ingen system which redirects the air intake to the front of the truck would provide a little increase in performance, however, as the air intake with the taco is already drawing from outside the engine compartment, the gains may not be as large as in other setups.

BTW, not a K&N hater, used them for over 25 yrs. but do not see the point of spending and additional $140 for a plastic tube, when the filter alone with the Taco setup would provide the same results.

I bought my truck on a Saturday and installed a Blackhawk k&n CAI system on Sunday. When I test drove the truck, I was shocked with how bad the throttle response was on a 3rd Gen. Not sure if I’ve seen any hp gains and with installing it the day after I got the truck, I don’t know if I’ve seen any mpg gains either. I am avg around 17-18 mpg though. I can tell you it has def helped with the throttle response and without a doubt it’s louder at higher rpm’s! Almost annoyingly loud. Since I got it solely with the intention of improving the throttle response, it has worked for me.

This is the equivalent of flipping the air filter lid on a carburetor IMO. Makes great noise, and that's about it.
