The 5160 seems good with almost 10 inches of extended length but I would like more. So I have Icon aals with 1.5 inch lift that I can add the overload to reach a total of 2 inches of rear lift. I also plant to add a shackle flip for an additional 3/4 inches of lift. I may end up with 2 3/4 of rear lift. What 5165 can or should I choose?

    5160 Specs
    • Fits 2005 to 2015 Toyota Tacoma
    • Rear left with 0-1.5" of lift
    • Collapsed Length (IN): 14.22
    • Extended Length (IN): 24.06
    • Travel Length (IN): 9.84

    or 5165 but which one????????

You need to find out what your max collapsed shock length is and then run the longest shock that has a shorter collapsed length. Almost all of the 5165's are eye to eye, not stem to eye so you'll need a converter that will add about an inch to both your collapsed and extended length. This means you'll have to run a shorter shock and ultimately will reduce the travel you'll be able to get.

According to bilstein, the 170/60 is a little softer in compression and stiffer in rebound than the tacoma specific application 5160.

This one is the most promising if it's not too long. I'm trying to figure out if I can make this one work okay wit an adapter or otherwise.

What are you adding to your truck to fit this one in? Leafs, Shackle Flip, shock relocation (BAMF)?

Right now I just have OME Dakar spring pack and wheeler's super bumps. I have the 3 degree shim and was going to add another leaf which will add a bit to the compressed length but mostly I was just probably gonna go remeasure because I did it a while ago and then sigh a whole bunch. It would be such a great shock if it was stem to eye mount.
