So I just purchased 5100's with 887 springs and it got delivered today. I was just curious if it was set at the correct notch to give me the 3 inch lift before I mount them on Saturday.

Can someone tell me if it currently set at the right notch???

ANY OME coil on 5100's should be on the lowest notch/setting.

Unreal.....does this mean I have to remove top hats, remove coil and then set it to the lowest notch on 5100s (Stock)?

What happens if I leave it on the 3rd notch? (Any issues)?

Correct. I am not sure who you ordered them from, but that is the general consensus around the interwebs. If you ordered them from a TW vendor, they should have set them accordingly.

Dang it to heck....Unfortunately they're not a TW vendor. IF I leave it the way it is, (3rd notch) will I run into any issues?

I'm trying to understand why we shouldn't go above the first notch..

Premature wear and tear on the shocks themselves. OME coils are not designed for or designed to work with 5100 coils. You CAN run them and people do. However, it is best to run what is designed to and meant to work together. Setting that much preload, you can run into issues with alignment and CV angles being too high.

My .02, it is easier to address this issue now while they are off the truck than later when they are on the truck or in a worse situation on the side of the highway (God forbid).

@geekhouse23 Really appreciate the help and knowledge here!

Just so I understand this correctly:

    3rd Notch with 887coil = 3 inch lift

    0 notch with 887coil = 1 inch lift?

With the 0 notch setting how much lift would I really be getting then? 2 inch?

With the 0 notch setting, you will still get 3". The 887 coil is a 4Runner coil that lifts 3" regardless of the setting. The notches are there to add preload. Again, using the OME coils on the 5100s with ANY preload will cause the premature wear and tear and CV angle issues.

Got it. If setting it to the 0 notch will cause less wear and tear then on the 3rd notch I'm all for it, as long as I still get my 3 inch lift.

    Thanks for the help!

Sorry to thread jack a bit. But what about 884 coils on 3rd gen 5100s on second notch. Only got just over an inch lift from them and was looking for an inch and a half or so. May take them off and put them one perch up. The 3rd gen 5100s have more perches.
One perch up from bottom would be .65 inch lift.

5100s/OME 888s. Dakar leaf pack. Total Chaos UCAs. DeMello Sliders. BAMF Recessed Grille. Prinsu Cabrack and Toprack.
Same answer. The OME coils should always be run on the "zero" setting. If you want more lift, get the 887 or 888 coils.

But I’m curious how it preloads them any different than using a larger coil if they are the same spring rates? Read on headstrong in the past that they used to be okay with them on the second notch. I get it, it may ride a bit more rough, but is it really that much different? Or is this one of those the internet says so, so it is? Not trying to be a smart ass, just curious.

I have the 887's on 5100's and I'm at 3 inches with it set on zero.

Thank you! I was looking for that to post. Couldn't find it. In my defense, I am still at work and other things were priority at the time.

Alright things are about to get interesting....

So I called Lowrangeoffroad and they said that it's set on the correct notch  Because they base their Bilstein on the original 3 notch system.

The associate also said that on the 4 notch setup on 5100, they don't count the bottom notch as a notch.................:annoyed:

    Wrong.

Those 5100s need to be set on the bottom ring position to provide 3” lift with the 887s. Ask Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road or @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc .
