Someone posted a thread the other day about a different noise coming from their manual and it got me curious. I’ve always chalked it up to being a quirk. Don’t hear a peep in any other gear. Bought the truck at 62k miles and it’s been doing it since then. 2015 5 speed 4x4. Changed to redline fluid about 4k ago with no change. Don’t recall if I’ve heard it in 4wd as I’m rarely in it let alone reversing as well.

Curious what everyone else thinks it is and if it’s fixable. Just gonna roll with it otherwise as I have.

Are you talking about the gear whine? That’s normal. Straight cut gears are used for reverse.

Good to know. I haven’t had the chance to get up close and personal with any tacomas like mine so I wasn’t sure if it was a unique sound. Thanks for putting that year long question to bed
