A lot of people in Tacoma’s get nitro. I did based on that. However, if I did it again and price being equal, I’d probably go Revolution due to the humming at highway speeds on my nitros. It’s fine and it doesn’t bother me a lot, but I’ve read revolution gears don’t have this problem. It’d be nice to not have the humming (howling) issues.
Either way you’re getting a dependable product. Both companies are very good.

edit: this humming has been noted frequently by others going 5.29 on 3rd gens. It’s not just a single case.

I had Nitro in my 2003 Tundra, never had any issues. Humming? My tires drowned out any other sound the truck made at high speed.

    Different truck, likely different ratio.

Think only manual pros have 4.30. As well as any other manual 3rd gen.

It's the transmission that determines gear ratio, not the trim level.

    Autos are 3.90
    Manuals are 4.30

Same gears used for Tacoma's, even advertised and sold as such. Had no issues throwing them into my diffs.

Quickly looked up. Says same as 1st gen Tacoma? Different diff size too I think. Not really a good apples to apples comparison.

Anyways, like I said, not everyone experiences this but it is definitely common. Perhaps on the order of 30% or greater.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. To be honest, I'm not quite sure what the Regearing size I need to get. I'm no planning to throw on too big of a tire nor do a lot of off-roading either. I just want a smooth drive on the freeway since I got a little bigger tires, lifted, camper, steel front, and back bumpers. So, there are some weights added to my truck. Let me know. thank you all.

All I was saying is that I recommend them and discussed my experience with them.

5.29s on these trucks. Period. Youll regret it I think if you go 4.88s. The OD in these trucks make compensating for the R&P size easy on the interstate. I do have 35s and 3 heffers worth of gear and tools riding in the back, but I dont know anyone that went that route regret it. I also ran them on 33s for a short while and it was definitely not geared too low.

I have heard of the whine as well, but from my personal experience mine are as quiet as I could ask for.

I'm interested, as I have not changed gears in the taco. It sounds like you're either recommending 4.88's for stock and 5.29's for bigger tires, towing, heavier loads, etc. Or you're recommending 5.29's for everything?

I know people that have run 5.29s on stock tires and not found it to be too low. But, I also know people with 4.88s on 32s and said they are fine.

Obviously, a ton of it is preference and how you use the truck. For me, I wouldnt consider anything less.

I’ve been running my revolution gears for 6 months now and have zero complaints.

For me it does seem a bit high, but I guess taking into account the taco is (up to) a V6 vs my old Tundra V8, it may be better suited for higher gears.

I agree with your assessment. I ordered my Nitro Gear 5.29 ratio front and rear gear package kit with REM added from SDHQ for my stock Tacoma. I plan on driving my truck in stock form for some time with 5.29 ratio as I slowly upgrade suspension/tires and add weights to the truck over time. It is all done in order to future proof the truck with the mods that are to follow. I tuned the truck today to KD Max performance tune via @PapaRee today and it runs great. Once the ring and pinion package is received, I plan on getting them cryo treated. Cant wait to see how this tune functions with the 5.29 gear ratio addition.
