    Spitballing here. Total speculation.

With the new tacoma sharing the same platform, it's possible that we may get interchangeable parts with tundra finally.

Nissan did this with their trucks and it resulted in this. "Titan Swap" Frontiers and Xterras.

    download.jpg

You'd put in arms, axle and tie rods (sometimes even the diffs) Boom, longer travel, bigger lifts. Rear simply got spacers and leaf springs, but who knows.

With the current tundra lift kit, you discard the upper a arms, so there are many many arms out there for sale with no buyers. My dealer probably has 20 sets for all I know.

I really want someone to try this out the door, especially with a 2WD model.

BTW Preface for lifts. The tundra TRD lift has a massive list of parts. Ball joint spacers, longer axles, arms, tie rods etc. All get tossed for upgraded parts. Very expensive. The geometry looks to be more challenging for the tundra to get lift correctly.

For the trouble, probably better off to wait until companies like Total Chaos release a Tacoma kit. Cry once as they say.

Agree but arguably we can say Tacoma owners are a little more frugal (within reason) and TC arms do poorly in some climates. We'd never run open heim joints where I am, they barely get 6 months even with care. OEM style seem to last the longest. Obviously there's other makes, but TC is a leader for sure.

More so trying to plant the seed to thinking outside the box. Excited to see the evolution of lifts.

If you can do the Tundra parts on the cheap, I can see going that rout for sure. Used to be into all that stuff. Leave them stock now, a lot less fussing.

Great post. There’s a good chance that many parts will swap, including suspension and drivetrain… we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed that Toyota didn’t spend too much time attempting to prevent it… as they do such thing these days.

2nd Gen Tundra arms are a popular swap on the 2008 - 2021 Land Cruiser 200 Series. They are a cheap and easy bolt on +1.75”.

I'm curious if Total Chaos or Camburg will offer a +1.5" (vs the +2" on the 2nd/3rd gen) front kit. Then you could take an OR, throw on the trailhunter/pro fender flares, a set of 1.5" spacers in the back (is that thing?) and get the increased travel the pro should have from the factory.

Really hope this becomes a thing. There's been some underbody shots of the 4g taco, maybe someone that knows the new Tundra well enough could do a quick visual check on it to see if they're remotely similar. We keep hearing about tng-idgaf whatever it's called platform maybe it is the same.

I think though if it had been this easy to make a long travel TRD PRO from existing Tundra parts then maybe they would have done that instead of getting the extra width from wheel offset..?

Could you overlay a discarded 2022+ Tundra UCA with a 2nd/3rd gen Tacoma UCA and see how much longer it is?

I'm going to be diving into this and seeing if it's doable in a week or two. I got confirmation that Total Chaos will not be offering a +2 kit, only a +3.5, and I'm looking for something around a +2. I got my hands on a set of OEM upper and lower control arms from a 3rd gen Tundra. Everything appears to line up, and the arms are about 1.5 inches longer. The shop I'm working with can get custom axles shafts, tie rods fabricated, all that good stuff, if it does work. From what I'm seeing, if this comes together, 5th gen 4Runner LT coilovers will work on the 4th gen Tacoma. More to come.

What’s your plan with UCAs?? I’m trying to find out if the 2022+ Tundra TRD UCAs fit the 2024+ Tacoma

I had a 2023 Tundra and carried over my rear timbren bump stops over to my 2024 Tacoma.

I picked up a pair from a buddy yesterday, OEM of his SR5 TRD Off Road. If the OEM uppers and lowers fit, I may buy Tundra Total Chaos uppers and lowers down the line, for added strength.

Curious the cost of this route vs portals. What is the end goal, proof of concept?

Portals are upwards of $20k, or in that ballpark, right? Portals are definitely a good route if you want a lot of lift/ground clearance, and the ability to run large tires confidently. I'm not a huge fan of the stock suspension though, so portals wouldn't solve for that. End goal for me is a more affordable "mild" LT build that doubles as a good daily, similar to my 3rd gen build.

The 74Weld 4th gen build is sick though, no doubt about that.

Somewhat of an over simplification lol. It is cheaper compared to getting a completely custom +2 suspension fabricated, but like I mentioned earlier, if the components are interchangeable, and the net difference yields an additional 1-2 inches in track width per side, the goal would be to go purchase Total Chaos expedition uppers and lowers for the Tundra.
