and i wasn't talking to you

btw, your mechanics logic is flawed. The new oil is already clean and filtered prior to being put in the jug and contaminates can get inside the filter whether you are prefilling it or not.

I don't think people realize how small a micron is. It's literally smaller than many bacteria. So dipping an oil covered finger on an o-ring while on the floor of a garage, with it's bay doors open and dusty air flowing in, while under a dirty truck is dumping thousands of one micron bits into the filter. As is opening a carboard box, tearing off the plastic. The engine air filter itself doesn't filter below 2 micron in size.

Yes, if one was using the oil filter on something like an human artificial heart valve, it would be worth not prefilling it to avoid cross contamination.

Word of caution for any other first time oil changers of a Tacoma such as myself which uses the Blue crush washer; it likes to stick to the oil pan and in poor light looks like it is part of the pan. I used a plastic spudger to tap it from the side to get it to release. After encountering this I searched and found old threads where people put a crush washer over one already stuck on the pan when they did not realize this.

Do our 4th gens have 'clear flood mode'?
I've searched the manual but didn't find it or maybe Toyota has a different name for it.
I use it at every oil change on wife's Subaru Forester with its top mount oil filter.
Handy feature to have for horizontal and top mount oil filters.

I can't figure it out if so. The 2024 has an oil filter the size of a thimble anyway. Thought this was a standard feature on most vehicles, but apparently not.

On other vehicles you usually press the brake and gas in. However this warning is in the manual on the Tacoma:

"Do not depress the accelerator pedal while starting the engine under any circumstances."

Yup that’s pretty normal with low mileage oil change. Thanks for posting.

When I took delivery on my 4th gen, I asked the service manager about oil changes. He elaborated on the strict requirements for full synthetic oil and the essentially required addition of a special conditioner (not covered by Toyota Care). Is this just another instance of "up-selling"? I do see where the Owner's Manual only specifies full synthetic but says nothing about additional high-dollar snake oil additives.

Most oil you are buying these days is going to be full synthetic unless you go out of you way to buy old dino oil or a blend. You also don't need any specials conditioners, especially in a new vehicle since most companies already have their own additive packages in the oil. If you go in for your 10k service, they are just going to stick in oem 0-20 which is just rebranded mobile 1

You need to find another dealer. That's a whole load of BS. You should never need any additives.

Your dealership should watch this. As he says in video..if you need to add additives to your oil..you're using the wrong oil!

Dealers get bulk oil and unless you're paying the uncharge it's getting bulk oil. 0w20 flavor at my dealer is M1.

For a little bit they were using the bottled 0w16 and 0w8 until suppliers caught up.

M1 is the maker of Toyota oil, but is a different additive package.

Changed my oil today at 3500 to be safe. Neighbor made fun of me for changing it so soon. I figured it was cheap insurance. The felt skid is in with 12mm

it was a piece of cake. Also mixed in plastidipping my emblem while I was at it!

    good to go!

Not my experience with my dealer. I burned the 10k change at 1k and 20k change at 5k on my 23 tundra.

Change my oil at about 900 miles.
I mistakenly thought the dealer did oil change every 5000 but all they do is rotate tires and some other Mickey Mouse stuff, the oil change is at one year. I’m gonna change it every 5000 myself.
In addition to taking photos and video after parking at the dealer lot for my scheduled appointment sometimes I will mark my tires LF and LR. I’ve caught dealers before claiming tire rotation, and they did not. Having said that, I’ll just rotate tires at home.
My other vehicle is a luxury brand and they send a video and live updates. I haven’t owned a Toyota in a very long time but something tells me they won’t do the same even though the two service centers are on the same mega complex.

I did the first one at 3k just to get the break in oil out. Probably not necessary but oil is cheap and it takes less then 30 minutes.

With my 2nd gen I would change the oil anywhere between 5-10k miles. Sometimes right at 5k other times closer to 10k. That truck has almost 200k miles and is still going strong. I plan on doing the same with this one.
