4th Gen 4runner Rear Brake Caliper Rebuild

    Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
    Been looking into doing this, instead of buying a Reman. I have an 07 4runner. Have been getting the rear brakes replaced every 4 years or so. They rust and eventually seize. Feb 1 marks 4 years, so trying to prevent the seize this year. Was going to take them off, wire brush them, clean them up, check pistons out, relube, put new seals in, POR15 caliper paint on them and put them back on with new pads and hardware, then bleed.

    Bought kit 04479-35060

    Process looks straightforward, and only one piston per caliper in the back. Tons of videos on the front, none rebuilding the back.
    Anyone done them?

    Never done them but are the rears usually the ones that seize up? If so I may be doing this

    Yeah I've never had the fronts seize, but I've done the rears twice and headed for a 3rd.

    Ok I heard the 4th gens had a problem with brakes seizing and thought it was all 4 that could seize. Is there a reason you haven’t done the upgraded brakes or have you?

    There's not much to upgrade. Tried several brands. They're all single piston.

    This year I did make an effort to lube the slide pins. Maybe that'll help.

    This is the upgrade I’m referring to it uses 5th gen parts.

    Yea if you didn’t know about it, it could be a possible solution for you. I haven’t had my 4Runner long and haven’t experienced any seizing so far but I’m looking into doing both front and rear to be safe. If it’s more common for the rear to seize than the front I would look into only doing the rear. I’m mostly curious about the bleeding procedure due to the abs system. My Tacoma does not have abs so I have no experience with it.
