    Hello All,

Looking to see if anyone has gone with newer 4runner wheels and 255/80/17? Will it rub while turning/articulating while off-roading?

I’ve read that 255/85/16 on the Tacoma TRD wheels (what I have now on my 2020) fit without rubbing while turning/articulating but I know that the 4 runner wheels have a slightly different offset

Below is a pic of wheels I’m considering from a few year old 4runner

The Tacoma TRD Off Road wheels are a 16x7” with +25mm offset. The 4runner “snowflake” wheels are also 7” but have a +15mm offset. So that means the centerline of the tire will be out 10mm farther (approx .4”) with the snowflakes. I’m not sure if that will make the 255s rub but my guess will be yes, because the more they stick out, the longer the turning arc.

Thanks for the info! Has anyone tried the snowflake 4 runner tires and 255/80/16 tires?

I can't speak to the 4Runner offset but I can say that the FJ 17" Steelies with 255/80/17 KM2s I have fit just fine. There was some rubbing on the mudflaps at full turn but that was it.

Bump.. has anyone run 4runner wheels with 255/80/17? There are much better tires made in that size vs 255/85/16

I have the 4runner pro wheels which have a +4mm offset and they don't rub with 255/80r17's

No rub at full lock on stock suspension? If so I am pumped because I thought I was going to need a CMC to fit that exact setup with the offset from the SEMA wheels on my stock off road.

Very minor plastic rub, but not metal rub. I trimmed it. But it probably wasn't necessary.

Have you maxed out the articulation of the truck to see if it rubs while off-roading?

It will likely be totally fine. But every truck is slightly different and every brand of tire, even of the same size, will be slightly different. You’ll have to take the plunge and try it.

I have the FJ Cruiser wheels and 265/70-17 and they are great. No rubbing but I did put a 2" lift in front and and a leaf spring in the back which lifted it about 1.5".

Looking to run 33x10.5x17 Klever RT on stock OF suspension but hate to buy the tires and 4runner wheels just to find out it’s going to rub off-road

For context, I believe most FJ wheels are +15 the same as the 4runner snowflakes. (Which makes sense because the FJ and the 4runner are the same platform.)

I did a bunch of research and read a ton of threads a few months ago looking at tires for wheels in the +10 to +15 range. I am 90% sure that you can run 255/80/17 with +15 on or off road with no rubbing except mud flaps. But I don't have personal experience with it.

Another data point: it's common in the FJ world to run 285/75/16 (much fatter than 255/80/17 and only a smidge shorter) with the stock +15 wheels without any issues. Granted the wheel well is probably shaped differently but it shows it's in the ballpark.

What is the diameter? Usually 33s are actually 32.5 which is quite a bit smaller than 255/80/17. If so then you should have absolutely no issues with those 33s. 10.5 width is around a 265.

255s are the only 33s that will fit with stock suspension and no rubbing because they are skinny (~10” wide). You get a 33x10.5 and you can bet that you’re going to rub.

You thinking the +.47” in width will cause me to rub with 4 runner wheels?

It’s a good chance that it will. Like I said, the reason 255s work is because they’re so skinny. With tires, often 1/2” wider can make a significant difference on rub.

That looks great. Always nice to see something other than black.
