Hey guys my wife is wanting to upgrade her 04 4runner for a new lunar rock. Can anyone give me a quick low down on all the different trim options. I used to know them all back when I had one but it seems like they’ve come out with a bunch of new ones.

I’ve looked at that but it’s such a pain in the ass to compare them all. I thought maybe there was a 4runner guru that knows all the main differences like I do with the 2nd gen tacomas.

You may also not get what you want. Dealer allocation and market adjustments are a huge current issue. You cant “order” and get exactly what you want, you’re at the mercy of what your chosen dealer can get alotted to them based upon various factors.

Put a order in yesterday for a new TRD Off-road Premium in Lunar Rock for the wife. Said it’s about a 6-9month wait with the color and trim package we want but she’s got a perfectly functioning 4runner as it is so no big rush. Went with the KDSS and moon roof package. So it should be pretty sweet! 2k down to hold our place in line and the dealer was 1.4% below msrp. Another dealer we went to wanted the same 2k down but had sale price at msrp and a 1999.99 dealer fee.

Will be having a 2004 4runner for sale in about 6 months if anyone is looking for a reliable rig. Has 2.5” lift with ome coils and 5100s and new brakes and stainless lines all the way around.

I had that same truck with AWD and the 4.7. Traded it in at 72k for the 2014 model. I regret that often.

We’ve got the 4.0 in it so it will pretty much just be a updated version of what we got. I always heard the 4.7s hard spark knock issues but maybe I’m wrong? My buddy’s got one in his first gen tundra and loves it. Gets pretty much the same mpg as my Taco gets and way more power

i've got two of the 4.7s, and 04 and 07. the headers are known to crack, but its not spark knocking that people hear. it's a bit annoying when cold, but really a non-issue and not something that even has to be corrected. i sold an 04 v6 to get the 2nd 4.7, worth every penny. if you have a vehicle that gets the job done, id wait. buying new now is the worst it's been in our lives. i have friends who've bought a few new 4runners and are paying sticker for a vehicle that's one year from refresh.

That’s good to know. Totally see what you are saying and agree with you. But also my wife’s not wanting to wait haha. Not to mention trying to get a 4runner after they update it with todays supply and demand issues seems like a even longer wait. Plus I don’t want a first year model vehicle. Especially since I’m sure they will be going with a hybrid or turbo 4 cyl. If there were rumors of a diesel I’d try to talk her into waiting but I doubt that will ever happen stateside.

i think you'll see a lot of people start to reconsider the lower mpgs of these current v6 engines and be willing to trade into the first few years of the new gen. i also don't wouldn't want to buy the first year of the refresh, but perhaps the used market will soften even more.

Used market probably would eventually but it seems like Toyotas used values just keep going up and up. More mpgs would be nicer at $6 a gallon but it will come back to normal eventually. And the last of the non hybrid and battery motors will be a hot commodity here in ten years when all the battery’s are failing haha.

yeah i agree with that. some things will definitely be valuable in a few years, last of the LCs, 5.7 Tundras, even the v6 4runners.
