Would the TPMS sensors from a 2018 4runner Off Road work on a 2016 Tacoma Sport? Does anyone have experience with purchasing 4runner rims with TPMS sensors and not having to switch them out? Would it just require re-programming?
    Thanks!

I just had the guys at tire shop use my original ones from my Sport wheels. Don't think I answered your question but just let you know the ones on your sport work with the 4R pro wheels so should work with the Off Road too.

the sensors should be able to be programmed to your ECU. toyotas were fairly forgiving if I remember correctly. it was AUDI, Mercedes, and Volvo that were very particular about make/manufacturer TPMS.. if not you can get some generic TPMS sensors and get them programmed.

I just went through this. I bought 2018 4 runner wheels and tried to reprogram them to my 2017 Tacoma and they would NOT reprogram. I wound up cloning my Tacoma sensors and had to break down the 4 runner rims and remove the sensors and put the cloned ones in their place.

My son works at a shop. He has the new TPMS sensors in stock and he has a tablet that you put near the existing tire and wheel combination and it reads the information and then transfers that info to the new TPMS sensor. I think the new sensors were about $20 apiece. He then took the new wheels and broke them down on the sensor side and unscrewed the existing sensor and replaced them with the cloned sensor and reaired the tire. The whole operation took about an hour or maybe a little longer.

Its not a hard job, just time consuming and have to be cautious how you break down the tire beads as you can hit and damage a TPMS very easily (plastic snaps, and breaks if the bead even goes near them..) just need to be sure the nut on the TPMS is torqued to spec.. its like 14ftlbs or so (been a while). you can get cheaper aftermarket TPMS sensors that work with the factory recievers,.. just have to check their frequency compatibility..

Thanks for all the responses. I actually have the Tacoma sensors, just was hoping i could just use the sensors already in the 4runner wheels instead of having to switch them out.

The only reason I cloned mine is I am going to use the Original Tacoma wheels for snow tires this winter. Which I hope is a long way off.

Nope, you can't reprogram the 4runner ones for the tacomas unfortunately. I ended up buying some SR or SR5 sensors for the steel wheels that work if you flip them 180 i believe.

Yeah, just bought some 4runner wheels and tires with sensors that were supposedly working with the guy's older-than-mine Tacoma. 4x4 shop couldn't reprogram. Toyota dealership wanted to charge $150 just to try scanning them. I politely declined and will be bringing the original sensors that I thankfully kept back to the 4x4 shop to do the partial dismount.
