I'm looking at these TRD Pro Fox front shocks from a 4Runner, would these fit on a second gen Tacoma?

I bought shocks from a 5th Gen 4R and they would not fit my 2014 DCSB OR. The bottom eye of the shock was too wide to fit into the slot on the lower control arm.

I just wanted to ask this. There’s always deals on used 6112/5160? From 5th gen TRD Pro guys getting coilovers.

but according to Bilstein website the part numbers differ.

if the difference is a wider eye I wonder if it could be ground thinner and a different bushing installed.

otherwise that setup in correct Tacoma part numbers is probably $1100+

I feel confident enough if i had to do it yes. I had another use for the shocks I had so didn’t try but seems like there was someone else on here who did.

i did some research a while ago cause i did see the 4runner 6112/5160 combo for like $300. and the reason i didn't get it was because the 4runner suspension is shorter. so you might install the setup and get no lift, or even loose lift.

if you go to 4runner forums, people are putting 2nd gen tacoma trd off road front shocks on their 4th gen 4runners and getting 1.5" lift. it that means that the tacoma shocks are longer, or the spring sits higher on the tacoma, causing more lift for the 4runners. this is how i understand it.

People say the same about 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas. You will get a small lift if you put stock 3rd gen on a 2nd gen Tacoma according to folks around here.. But if you start looking up after market shocks you will see the same part number used for 2nd and 3rd gen(at least for several brands).

Kings, Bilsteins etc are almost exactly the same length for 4th&5th gen 4Runner and 2nd and 3rd gen Tacoma.

For Example if you look at King Shocks:

    For a 05+ Tacoma are: Extended - 21.687", Collapsed - 16.75
    For a 2010+ T4R: 21.69", Collapsed - 16.8"

FJ Cruiser are a hair longer. The length was the same from 07-14 but the eye got wider in 2010(same as 4R): 22.375", Collapsed - 17.308".

But I know some people will say they are all cross compatible as long as the eye fits in the Lower Control Arm, but idk.

I assume it all works because they are adjustable. Stock non-adjustable components seem to be a different story I guess.

They fit just fine, bottom mount has to be opened up a small amount for them to fit but it's nothing drastic.

Did you gain lift? If so, how much from stock?

A little bit, I'd say ~1.5" over stock. It was enough to level the truck out with fairly new TSB rear springs.

I went with 3rd Gen. TRD off road suspension. And it does give about a 1" lift. The funny part is That the stretch out of the vehicle is about a 1/4 inch shorter than the 2nd Gen. But when it's installed due to the Spring rate or whatever it adds lift. I don't quite understand exactly how or why it works but it does... I understand fully that the rears may have been clapped out & sagging, And that's why it lifted the rear. (Side-by-side the rear Springs do look a little different not just the fact that 1 was sagging in flat. Rear shocks were almost an inch longer)
But there's no reason that it should have lifted the front. ( You can definitely see a big difference in the front coils) All I know now is it rides a whole lot better than it did with the stock SR5 2nd gen suspension.

This is what it currently looks like with 265/70 17
