Yes it will. We swapped a 97 4Runner ECU into a 99 Tacoma with no issues.

If the numbers on the ECM match your good to go.

If not things will get real interesting perhaps

The engine cranks but new fuel pump is not getting any power, circuit opening relay will only click with direct power.I swapped in a 4runner ecu with no luck either.

What you need to do is sit down with the Toyota EWD for your truck and for the 4 runner it came out of.

Re pin your harness to match the 4 Runner ECM

What you just did is the same as most any 3.4 engine swap.

This is gonna be interesting .

Maybe start where this all begun to reach this point ?

Wyoming09, are you saying the pins are configured differently?

They would be configured differently. Even on Tacomas, the connectors and pin outs changed every single year. Even some ECU’s of the same year would be different between engines and drivetrains.

You need to match the ECU part number already on your truck.

Denso had an employee leak some crazy stuff on supra forums about their ecu’s and other Supra owners had backed him on it, he said: with the Denso computers they can take them apart and replace most or all of the capacitors and usually when in there, the ecu has water damage or broken cold solder joints to the board from the caps and can be replaced with newer caps and its somehow a way to get actual hp. I need to dig up the link as to where you can actually get the parts to fix it.

Here's the culprit. FYI the 97 4Runner ECU will not work on a 98 Taco.tacomaplug.jpg
