I don't know the exact number because I haven't measured it, but it's about 12'. It's absolutely perfect from that distance. If I remember I'll break out the tape measure when I get home from work.

I always hate buying tech cause the second I do the prices either drop or something better comes along. I don't know if I'll splurge on OLED but I do want to upgrade in size and features. My TV is getting old.

This is the TV I bought.

It's a great tv without completely killing the bank account. It is SO thin and light it's ridiculous.

I have a 60 inch and I sit at about 8 feet. It's not too big at all! The thing is that if the quality of video is good you'll never tell yourself that you got too big of a TV.

Just measured mine and it's 13.5' away from the couch. Did a test at 10' and it was good. Did another test at 8' and that was pushing it a bit.

Lots of good advice in this thread. My question is, whats the best way to do a wall mount? And how about hiding cables? My current Vizio just sits on my dresser with everything hanging behind it. I'm going to be getting a 50"-55" 4k for my new TV room and want it to look sleek.

Here's the TV mount that I used.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KY054BG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And I used this to mouny my cable box behind the TV. That company makes a whole slew of stuff to fit your needs.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F8NGVIE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I ran this surge protector behind my tv for everything. I like that the plug rotates within itself for more flexibility while mounting.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0090YEVSE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then I used this for my cable box so my remote still works.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JSDHCY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

To hide the cables, I just went to home depot and got some wire hider. The nice thing about mounting the surge protector behind the TV is it minimizes the amount of cable needed to be hidden. All I have coming down is one power cable, my coax cable, and an ethernet cable.

It's not as perfect as I'd like it to be, but it looks pretty good. That thin one going to the floor is the ethernet cable, and I think without that the install would look cleaner. I wasn't about to sacrifice video quality though by using wifi. I want to stream 4k dammit!

I think this looks awesome and may very well use some of the same stuff. I'll be having an entertainment stand below my TV that I'll likely have my soundbar, record player, cable modem and cable box resting on. Although I do like the idea of hiding the cable box behind the TV to save room.

I just did some measurements and I'll be sitting about 8' away from the TV, the wall I'm mounting the TV to is only 61" so a 50" will fit great (even a 60" would fit but I want some room on the sides).

If you're only getting a 50", consider this mount too (the smaller size didn't register earlier). It's an easier installation because it only requires one stud, so if there's a stud right where you'd want your TV mounted, this one only needs 3 bolts into the wall and that's it. The other one I linked gives a little more flexibility with your studs, but is a bit overkill.

Either way, I highly recommend these mounts that fully articulate as opposed to the other style where you can only adjust the vertical viewing angle. It's nice being able to move and tweak the TV to your liking, and it gives the ability to mount boxes behind the TV if you want.

Since you'll have an entertainment stand underneath, you could use one of these if you want to. That'll really clean it up.

    Yes
I worked in the biz for 23 years and sat in many hours of training all about this stuff :

    1. Distance to tv from seated position of sofa should be no closer than 2.5 x the diag measurement of the tv screen. So, IE: for a 60" tv you should not sit closer than 150" / 12.5 ft. The issues when you sit too close to a tv are first, that you see more pixelation and second that it actually strains your eyes trying to focus in a wider field of vision.

    2. The height of your tv on the wall should be level from your eyes in your seated position to the center of the screen. If you can not get it that low you should buy a tilting mount and tilt the screen down to be aimed at your eyes in the seated position. This prevents people from sitting for hours with a kinked neck looking up at a tv becasue your natural reaction is to lift your head...yes it happens. Even with a tilted screen you will sit with a kinked neck looking up so mount it as low as you can.

    3. To hide wires go to Home Depot and buy low voltage cut in mud rings, install one up high behind the tv and one down level with your outlets etc, this is cheaper than using the on wall wire moulding and looks cleaner. Chasing wires through a wall vertically is a piece of cake.

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread but it seems to be where all the pros are. I'm debating between several of these Vizio TVs and I can't really decide on the Home Theatre Smart Cast or the E Series. The HT is said to be just a display and you cannot hook up an antenna to it versus being able to do so with the E series. I ask myself, am I really planning on hooking up an antenna in this day and age? Saw some consumer reviews that talked about having issues hooking up to cable in general but I'm blaming operator error on that one. Any thoughts?

    Bumping this again

Do I really want 4k or is 1080 just fine? I'll be watching cable, sports, using Netflix, HBO, etc. Pretty all around for my TV use, but I just keep reading more and more complaints about 4k TVs and needing 4k capable equipment, is that difficult to source?

Realistically 1080 is just fine. I haven't used the 4k capabilities of my TV yet, but I like knowing I have it for when that day comes and I decide to source some nicer equipment. It'd just suck to drop coin on a new 1080, only to want to replace it a couple years down the line. I expect my TV to last me quite awhile.

If I go 4k, do I need to worry about hooking up to my Comcast cable box? Is it your standard HDMI cable? How about Blueray, is that the only option? TVs have gotten pretty cheap, not to sound like a money bags but I'm not too worried about it if I get a few years out of it ya know? My budget is sub $700

My verizon fios box uses a standard hdmi port, and the tv accepts standard hdmi. No idea about blu-ray, as I haven't looked into it. For sub $700, you're relatively limited. I would look into a solid name brand 1080 tv, and call it good.

I forget the specifics, but when I was looking into 4K tvs I learned that there's lower end 4ks (which isn't really 4K IIRC) and then there's actual 4K, which are $1300+. Like i said, I forget the specifics, but it's worth doing some more research into it.

Got it, I'm looking at the Samsung 6200 series and the Vizio E Series 1080, maybe a few others but living in the country I'm pretty limited (to Wal Mart and one electronics store) unless I want to have one shipped but I've only read nightmare stories about damages.
