Hello guys, im in the market to upgrade my tv. I currently have a 42" 1080p, but its a little small at times.

I have the mfr, specs, etc im looking for, but i cant decide on viewing distance. There are a lot of online charts discussing this, but i wanted some real world opinions from those who have them.

I am in between a 4k TV at 55" or 60". My viewing distance varies anywhere from 6' up to 12'. I guess the real question comes down to is 6' too close for either of those sizes?

55 will work. I'm at about the same distance. 60 just seemed a bit too much for my living room. I bought the Visio 4K home theatre display instead of a "TV" the only difference is you cannot hook up an old school antenna- there's no built in tuner. Saved me about $100 over the same model with a tuner.

When my buddy and I were building his "home theater" projector screen, we went off of one of those charts online. We were sitting like 8' away and had something ridiculous like an 85" screen. It seems crazy, but it was actually perfect. It filled our field of vision quite nicely and felt like a theater. I think you'd be just fine with a 60".

I have a 55" in my room and it doesn't even seem too big. Go 60". You won't regret going bigger.

I also heard anything past 8ft and most people can't tell the difference between 1080 and 4k. It's the colors that we notice more not the pixels.

as stated, im aware of the calculators, im looking for real world experience, and so far im hearing those calculators do a decent job. For instance, i know 4k tvs would allow closer viewing, but does the content allow you as well, as 4k content is too big right now

I just moved into a home with a much larger living room and now my 42" 1080p television seems tiny. I'm thinking about getting a projector. It's crazy how much cheaper TV's are than they were just 5 years ago.

I have a 65" where I sit about 9' away and don't have any issues, wouldn't want to get any closer though. You should really be able to see the whole screen comfortable without moving your eyes

    no, its a good question(s).

The TV sits in a corner of a 12x15 room. My main chair is 6' from the tv, maybe 7'.
For a lot of reasons i like the corner, mainly viewing from other rooms

I think you should wall mount it for a more central viewing area. Plus wall mounts just look loads better in my opinion. I've got my 65" wall mounted with a sound bar under it, and I use HIDEit mounts behind it to mount up my cable box.

what size if staying with the current setup? Currently, i dont have much wash, if any. Behind the chair and to the right of the sofa are wide doorways which allow viewing from other rooms.

You don't notice the wash at angles probably cause your current TV is ips and not va which most are now.

i went and looked at tvs yesterday. I probably would be fine with either a 55 or 60. The jump from my current 42 to either a 55 or 60 is big

I jumped from a 42 to a 65 and have no regrets. It fits the living room quite nicely. Plus the 60" and 65" were the same price in the tv I was looking at, so I figured what the hell.

Part of me says id be happy with a 55" and that makes sure the 6-7' position isn't overwhelmed.

The other part of me says GO BIG!!
