Anyone else w this head unit having issues? I gotta say, I’m not terribly impressed. Overall I’d be happy with it but every once in a while it cuts out when playing music. Almost like as if the phone is dropping service or something. But it’s definitely the HU. Then this past week, I got the “AMP Error” display while driving. Of course it happened while driving down the interstate for a few hours. Couldn’t get rid of it…nothing worked….couldn’t turn it off…nothing….until I eventually had to pull off for a fuel stop. Turned the truck off and it was fine when I got back in.
Anyone have ideas? I’m on the most up to date software.
Wiring is fine. I double checked it behind the Hu and speaker connections.

my first thought is that there's 2ohm speakers, and it's over-driving the internal amp...

I would pull the head into and check continuity to ground on all your speaker wires and then check resistance on each of the 4 pairs as well

check it with all the doors closed. my dad's '14 f-150 has a well known issue where the rear door looms get pinched on closure, and the power windows/locks start shorting out. i don't know of the same issue on the taco's, but better to check for it.

Here's a list of the problems I had with my 4660NEX. Had to RMA the first unit, second unit much better. Still crashes occasionally but now that hardware is good it seems to be more the fault of iOS/Carplay/Spotify/Waze which lots of people have. I have never had the amp error you show but I'm still on factory speakers, non-JBL.

I am also one firmware revision behind but it's working pretty well so I'm hesitant to flash it (and that's saying something because my day job is in IT and typically I am the first to update firmwares).

Hi, what ended up being your issue or solution? I have an 03 4Runner sr5 with the jbl system with all factory speakers, I have the pioneer avh-2500nex and I’ve been getting amp error after a minute of the headunit being on. I disconnected all speakers and amp and still get the amp error so I’m beginning to think it’s the headunit. Just trying to do some more research before I dish out $300+ on a new HU
