40000 mile service is it necessary?

My 2009 Tacoma just turned over 40000 milesTRD off road is it necessary to do the recommended service at this time or is this a waste of money don't trust the local Toyota dealer any advice would help thanks

 

Change your fluids and filters,and do it yourself.

 

First of all, you need to put some more miles on that bad boy. 40k in 10 years is amazing. Take it on some long trips.

2nd thing, do it yourself and get to know your truck. It's just oil, front and rear diff fluids, spark plugs and filters (engine and cab). Easy peasy.

 

Good lord. My 2017 has 44k lol

 

07 188k no service other then oil, filter, and plugs

 

There is such a thing as mileage being too low on a vehicle. You really should drive it more, and be sure to put it in 4WD every Now and then a take trip around the block.

I'd do the following....

- OEM oil filter $6
- Pennzoil Platinum engine oil $25
- cabin air filter $20
- engine air filter $20
- differential oil $60

All of that you can do at home. The differential oil, I'd do for sure if it's still the original oil. If there is any 'break-in' debris from the factory, it's still in there.

I would check your belt for dry rot. Simple things other wise plugs fluids and filters

 

yep exactly......10 YO belt ? replace that for sure

then fluids/filters/plugs etc......

brake & PS fluid too

 

Not something to brag about.

 

Don't forget to grease your zerks. 4wd have greasable u joints on the front and rear drive shafts.

 

Only if you live on a gravel/dirt road. Doing that on pavement is a good way to break very expensive parts. And even on dirt I would't turn any sharp corners.

 

Fine on pavement just don't turn any corners. I've left my 4wd on for about 10 miles on accident. Didn't notice till I turned the into a gas station. Was very obvious then.
