    Ok,
Having major issue, when I start my 2016 TRD OR the 4 wheel drive icon on the instrument cluster just blinks, then the 2wd-4wd failure comes on after driving for 10-15 minutes.
Note- this is just driving on paved roads, and not using 4 wheel..
    What’s causing this?
    Thanks in advance

Are you starting in 4wd? Leaving it in 4wd? Do you normally drive around in 4wd?

Or is all of this happening in 2wd without touching the 4wd selector

When was the last time you used 4WD? It can seize up from non-use.

Sounds like 4WD isn't engaging. I just tried mine yesterday as I've only used it once. It took a few moments for 4 High to engage while in drive and I had to switch between neutral and drive a couple of times. Truck was stopped at the time and I did roll forward slowly while it engaged. Didn't try 4 Low, but I probably will soon just make sure everything still works. :mudding:

Had this happen about a year ago. 4WD light was blinking and same message. I had to drive it home stuck in 4WD. Dealership replaced the front diff actuator under powertrain warranty. Only took them a few hours. Make sure you're not in 4WD without realizing it... You could cause more damage.

Ok, sounds like the truck is trying to engage 4wd, but can't. Is the 4wd selector knob fully in 2wd? Have you looked underneath the truck for any corrosion or pinched or damaged wires? Might be a defective 4wd actuator or the 4wd knob selector switch.

Yes knob is in 2wd, I have inspected front axle actuator and wires, pulled the 4wd selector all wires and connections look to be fine..

Have you done any water crossings? The actuators for the transfer case and front differential are not very waterproof and can get corroded after they flood.

Just for grins, have you tried to put it in 4hi to see what happens?

Yes, normally as we all can attest to, when you move the selector to 4wd, you can hear and sometimes feel the truck going into 4wd, I have none of that going on.
It’s like the whole 4wd system is dead..
I ordered a new front axle/differential actuator, I’ll start from there.

thanks to all for there input

@ShimStack or @BigWhiteTRD can probably get you sorted on testing if you're comfortable with that kind of stuff. Ohming out actuators etc.

Before you go nuclear, did you try playing with it? Put it into 4H, reverse a bit, etc.

Took a good 15min of messing with it in an empty parking to get mine working when the truck was brand new

I'm betting it doesn't need parts replacement. Just take it out on a dirt or gravel road, put move the selector to 4X4 and put some miles on it. Given some time there is a good chance it will shift into 4X4 and once it does will start working normally.

Whatever it takes to get it working remember you have to use it regularly or lose it. The owners manual suggests 10 miles/month in 4X4 to keep everything lubricated and working. I don't always get 10 miles each and every month. Some months may see only 2-3 miles, some months 200-300 miles and occasionally I may skip a month. But I do use it regularly and don't have these issues. Don't forget to engage lo range or locking diff's occasionally too.

My understanding is that there is no need to engage 4Lo, just 4Hi.

    Sorry
Too late tonight to be able to help much
Short answer, I assume you are out of warranty.

Do you want to use techstream or an ohmmeter to diagnose (if you are actually going to diagnose it).

If it is blinking right from engine start, it is actually only a few feedback culprits it could be I believe...
