alright i dont know what to do here if anyone does please let me know. i got into my truck earlier and the 4lo light with the green 4 wheel drive indicator are flashing. my truck is not engaged into 4 wheel drive either? i have not had it engaged in probally a week. i have tried unhooking the battery to reset the computer and that didnt work. i have tired engaging the 4wd and it does even engage. i honestly have no idea here i guess i will be calling the dealership in the morning unless i get it fixed somehow. and do you think my lift could have affected this i dont see how it could since it is the 4wd and is not engaged and has not been in a week or so. im guessing it is a computer malfuntion but please HELP!!!

thats what im thinking but do you think that a computer malfuntion would keep it from engaging and disengaging?

stop truck with foot on brake put in neutral... then switch to 4hi then to 4lo...

in reverse stop with foot on brake put in neutral... switch to 4hi then to 2hi...

if this dont work let the truck sit and cool down... after some time try again. if still nothing take in on a slow drive down to town... drive into the toyota dealership and tell them your shit is broke and they need to fix it.

    hope this helps.

    Hey there WhiteTaco,
My 06 started having the identical symptom in 05/2010. Until now I thought I was the only person on the planet who had it. Difference is that it's very intermittent and not constant like yours was. I've gone 2-3 months w/o it occurring. The dealer has not been able to diagnose it yet. I've driven it into the shop with the symptom occurring (4LO and chassis lite flashing and drive selector unresponsive). Usually turning the eng off and back on clears it up, sometimes not. I do not have a lift on mine but I'm wondering if this "diff plug" (if it even applies to me) is the culprit. Maybe it's half-in/out and jostles around? I live in Frederick MD a few hours from you. I would like to have the ServMgr at mine and your dealership talk. Could I possibly get the contact from you? Dealership, location, phone#, ServMgr name? This has me pretty stressed. I'm getting to where I can't trust going out in snow/ice thinking it might fail. Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    -Skip

If anyone else has any ideas on this please reply. Thanks.

Anyone have a picture of this plug? I am having the same issue, but my truck is 700km out of warranty, so before I drive it 150km to a dealership to find they wont cover it, I would like to check the plug.
    Thanks.

After 17 months of going back + forth with the dealer and trying to reproduce my intermittent problem, I finally got this fixed. I reported the problem at 54k miles (within drive train warranty so it was still honored after 60k) and at fix time it was 64k miles. They ended up replacing both actuators which involved dropping the transmission. They said "the rods inside the actuators were sticking". Their part + labor cost was 3700. I hope your issue is the plug. Good luck.

Best I can do it's EC1 just a short distance from the ADD on the front Diff, if you don't find an issue there check your limit switch voltages as outlined in the thread below and post your results so we can see where we need to look.

To check this switch do we need to get under the truck and remove the skid plate. My lights are flashing and I never even tried to put it in 4wd.

No we are checking the voltages at the 4wd ECU, once we determine which switch(es) are out of range then we may need to go under the truck to the actuators for further testing.

I checked my voltage at the ECU and I can’t find any voltage on some of the wires. Where else to look?
