Hey guys. I’ve looked around on Tacomaworld for some answers and haven’t found much. So this thread is a real down and dirty BS thread on a real 4-Link set up for us “Go Fast” Taco enthusiasts.

I’ve done my research, gone back and forth on SUA or linked rear end(for a little less then a year) and I have decided on back-halfing and linking it.

Leaves are great and they work. But there is so much more that can be done with a linked set up, so much more travel potential and ultimately, I want it to be a safe and exciting ride.

Yes. Fully caged interior and rear end, no “bed”. Safe enough to rip through some big whoops and open desert. Hit the dunes, catch some air. Typical Prerunner stuff. Cage the engine eventually.

So. The build. Fully fabricated trailing arms and triangulated 4 link set up. Jaz 32 gallon fuel cell, eventually 9” rear end. 18” Coils, bypasses, 2.0 bumps. All the works, nothing too fancy but definitely what I need. Planning on having this truck off the ground for at least 6 months to get all of this done(myself). It will probably take longer but that’s fine. I have never actually built a system this complex before so it is a trail by fire kind of situation. But I’m stoked on it and it’s what I want to build.

    My questions.
What is the typical length trailing arms that real Prerunner Tacomas run? 32”, 48”, 55”, 60”?

Can you fit a coilover and bypass onto the trailing arm without cutting into the rear of the cab(shortbed). Not looking to run a short course set up. Want to push travel numbers by having the shocks farther up the lower links. Get maybe a 1.5:1 or so kind of set up.

Sick. Well those are my main questions. I’m sure y’all may be ready to roast me so getter done and let’s bs about some 4-links.

    Cheers TW ;)

LS Swap with RSG Tranzilla, Custom hi clearance front bumper, Relentless: Slider's, bed rails, rear bumper, Prinsu with 40" BD s8. Dirt Designs 3.5 LT. Archive Garage rear towers/shackle flip/SUA. King Air bumps. King LT Coilovers in front. King 12x2.5 in rear. ARB rear air locker and twin compressor. SCS f5's with 33" Ridge Grapplers. 20" S8 mounted in bumper, squadron sport fog lights, squadron pro backup lights, LP6's bumper mounted.
I’ve got the dirt designs kit which is designed for short beds to not cut into the cab, you’re going to have a shorter motion ratio in order to achieve that. Currently with 16” bypasses I can only cycle about 21”. If I change to a 18” bypass I can gain another 3” or so. I think jd fab might also have short bed links but im not sure.

You’re most likely going to see 48” and 55” set ups.

Yes you can fit them without going into your cab. Much of it depends on where you decide to bump your up travel at. I want to keep mine lower, and still bump high so the angle of the links starts to tilt the shocks towards the cab. If you’re bumping a bit more conservatively, the angle isn’t as steep and the shocks will land more towards the rear. Yet again it’s all how it’s built too.

I second the JD fab set up. Seeing their kit first hand, I can honestly say it’s super straight forward of an install. They take most of the guess work out of it and it’s nearly bolt on.

I went with their more traditional set of links with a higher motion ratio but I believe they have a set with the shocks set back farther too.

is this kit still for sale by JD? i don’t see it on the website. is it a call and order over the phone type of deal? also interested in what kind of travel numbers you could push out of this kit.

I’m sure it’s call and order. I don’t know what the travel numbers intended are, as I don’t have the oem frame hanging out back anymore.
