Hi guys, I recently joined the Tacoma family and purchased a 2021 TRD Sport long bed earlier this month and I'm eager to get started on the mods, however, I want to make sure I get the proper guidance because this is all new to me.

I'm planning to get a 4-inch lift that will be a comfortable and not so stiff ride. I really like the King shocks but from what I can see they only go up to 3-inches, unless I'm missing something.

I don't really have a budget but I don't want it to be overkill for my needs. This is going to be my "trophy truck" and maybe taken off-road a couple of times a year. Thanks for helping out!

If you're 2wd, Maxtrac spindles are a great option for 4" lift without needing to change upper control arms. If you have a 4wd i would avoid the drop bracket style lifts and stick to a coilover/suspension lift of 3" or less to keep wear on the CV axles to a minimum.

Also keep in mind lift doesn’t equal ground clearance. Need bigger tires for that. 2.5-3 inch lift, cmc and some plastic trimming and 33s seems the basic “plan to off-road infrequently” needs.

it's a 2WD, forgot to mention that. Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm curious, is it possible to get a 4-inch lift with King suspension?

Yes, google Maxtrac spindles super easy way to do a 4" lift while maintaining all factory geometry and any stock size coil over will work..

    Stick with a 3"

There is absolutely no performance advantage to a 4". A well thought out 2.5-3" lift using cloilovers will vastly out perform some lame 4" lift with spacers or drop brackets.

A little bit of hammering and a CMC is all you need to fit some bigger tires.

If I go with the 3-inch king suspension lift kit, would I still need a CMC.

Also to note, I plan on getting some 33s and 17" wheels

All I said was that there is no performance advantage to that extra inch of lift. Doesn't matter if it's 2wd or 4wd.

Well there is a ground clearance gain in both approach and crown with that extra inch and the way a maxtrac spindle works it would be like putting a portal axle on a 4wd so you do absolutely gain front diff clearance to ground

don’t just do a CO lift on a 2wd, first you can’t do 3” without ending up with horrible alignment spec’s and what everyone always forgets is that when you crank up those coilovers and push those control arms down you narrow your front track width. 90% of the keyboard warriors on this site don’t even realize that their rear track width ends up wider than the front and the steering conditions that it creates. If you do the spindles all of your lift is achieved by the front hubs being relocated lower on the spindle. Your control arms stay flat, you have zero pre load on the co’s and you sit in the middle of the stroke instead of being close to topped out with minimal down travel to maintain tire contact adequately.

If you pair a maxtrac with a king co it will be really nice. Yes, no matter what you do you will need a cmc.
