I just picked up a 2002 2.7 liter 5 speed 4x4 for my son. Any idea what kind of gas mileage I should expect out of it? It has 166,000 miles on it. My old 6 cylinder double cab was getting 17 mpg I'm hoping this one will do a lot better. Thanks

I'd say over 20. I used to get 20-21 before the mods started happening

    The Bed is stock...ish
Way back when my 99 3rz auto 4x4 ext cab was completely stock, I could get 22mpg out of it if I reaaaaaaaally tried hard. Realistically, 18-20 driving "normal".

Good looking truck btw, minus the red emblems. :D:spy:

The only time my 95 Taco 2.7 4x4 Ext Cab had 24mpg was when the engine blew the head gasket and ECU run the engine quite lean (NOx went up to the roof on smog test). Now the truck runs 19-21 mpg off city (commute), 17 in stop/go city (shopping). It's been like that since I bought it in 97. Used to run on 235x75R15 Michelin LTX, now 30x9.5R15 BFG KO2. And I also have manual hubs.

I have the same truck you bought your son, and realistically if you get 20 mpg you are doing good.

I got about 19-20 with 3.58 gears and 32" tires. Now it's a bit lower with 4.30 gears and 32" tires.

If it's stock and running well, www.fueleconomy.gov numbers are pretty close.

Start futzing with stuff like tire sizes and all bets are off.
