Will be purchasing 2019 Tacoma. Torn between SR TSS 4 cylinder
    or SR5 V6.
TSS (Truck Sport Series) has dealer added accessories such as black wheels, etc. to hike up the price. But still cheaper than the V6. I like the look of the TSS, downside is the 4 cyl.

The big question is what do you do with your truck?
That will determine what you need.

Also, thumbs up for researching before buying, then complaining later:thumbsup:

Nothing wrong with the 4cyl, its a great reliable motor that will go 300k easy taken care of.. I will speak from my personal experience, I wish I had gone with a V6... The 4 banger has been great and reliable and does everything I ask of it.. At the end of the day its as slow as cold molasses and id rather have the power and not need it then need the power and not have it.. A lot of complaints on the 3.5 v6 (more so the auto trans programming ) on here but I have no personal experience with it..

the only concerning thing ive seen from 3rd gen v6 engines is the injectors going out(3 or 4 posts).

    The real question is do you want 159 hp & 180 lb-ft or 278 hp & 265 lb-ft?

I will be daily driving to work and kids to school. Hauling bikes on the weekends and occasional trip to Home Depot for stuff, no towing. All flat lands in Houston so no mountains.

oh yea that one a little less because most seem to be catching in warranty period from a bad gasket seal.

the injector one is a little pricey and seems to be happening to some at 70k - 90k miles

I have the 2019 SR 4x4 automatic 4 cylinder. All I can say is fantastic power and fuel mileage. Only negatives are no key lock on passenger side and a slight hesitation while accelerating when cold for around 10 seconds. Many people experience that issue. I highly recommend the 4 cylinder as long as you are not towing over 3500 pounds. Another plus is no key fob, it has a old school key. The less sh.. the better off you are.

The V6 makes roughly twice the power and they get almost the same MPG. Unless you just want the price tag savings, I can't imagine getting the 4banger.

Honestly, probably can’t go wrong with either. The 4 cylinder won’t accelerate as quick as the V6, but both will downshift going up grades. Real world fuel economy of the 4 cylinder is probably a couple of ticks higher than the V6. Then again, the V6 will certainly tow better than the 4 cylinder. The comparisons can go on for days and days.

I'm sure the 4banger does get slightly better MPG, but is it enough to justify basically half the power?

Probably not, if I’m being honest. If I didn’t have a regular cab I’d for sure have a V6.

But I do see an appeal in a 4 cylinder (if it was an Access Cab) and it’s a gutsy little thing.

6cyl... they practically get the same mileage, mind as well get some extra power out of it. I love mine and don't have the same complaints others may have about it. Then again i've never experienced the 4.0 but this has plenty of low end power for me and the trails i've visited so far.

I have an SR5 V6. More power and a lot of upgrades vs a 4 cyl SR. The TSS upgrade looks good, but you can always add wheels/tires to the SR5 later. You can't add a V6.
