Not 100% sure, but I have yet to see a new pulley sold without a bearing pressed in. Contact the vendor to be certain.

The tensioner pulley OEM is only sold as an assembly with the pulley and tensioner and requires dismounting the alternator and AC compressor as its the base they bolt to/thru.

Thanks guys! Ordered the 3 idler pulleys and a couple other things from McGeorge Toyota. Just waiting on them to ship. Must exhibit patience when places have good prices I suppose. Hoping they can get everything to me before my work quarantine ends in a month.

Will do! My plan was to check that for play once the others were being replaced. Sounds stupid, I know. But I didn't feel like buying the whole assembly from Toyota if I didn't have to. If the tensioner pulley is shot, I'll figure out a solution then.

In the original post there is a parts diagram (for Toyota OEM replacements) with the part numbers. It shows two washer looking things that go in front and behind idler pulley number 1 and 2 (all three pulleys) part number 16659AD010 for the front and part number 1664931020 for the back one. Do the original factory pulleys have these washers? Are these washers needed? The retail manager at my local Toyota dealer said, “the OEM replacement pulleys need these washers now because Toyota changed the manufacturer for the idler pulley”. Is there truth to this? Everything i’ve read about changing these pulleys they just mention the pulley itself and never these two washers.

I want to stick with OEM and not buy the gates pulleys.

The washers provide protection for the bearing. As spacers they may also prevent the bolt from bottoming out. Gates and other reputable manufacturers include a combination washer and center reducer for their bearings.

To post 89 yes the OEM use those washers and I reused my old ones but they were rusty so had to sand the 2 front ones and paint but the rear ones were fairly clean.
Just pay attention when you take the old ones off and see which went where. Or as dealer said buy the new ones and make the job easier and cleaner.

Did all three pulleys have the washers? Or just the two upper number 2 pulleys? Thanks for the info about your experience.

Hey all, just FYI for those looking for OEM pulleys, I found what I believe to be OEM manufacturer under a different name.

Koyo is a bearing manufacturer out of Japan that supplies many Japanese autos with OEM bearings. I ordered a full set of idlers matching the 4.0 from an eBay seller.

These suckers look perfect and appear exactly as OEM. It would not surprise me at all if these were the OEM manufacturer, and the best part is, they were ~$20 per pulley with free shipping (compared to $50+ for oem and $35+ for Gates).

I’d be amazed if those aren’t Chinese fakes for that price.

I don’t see why, OEM Idlers from Toyota dealers is ~$50-75, it’s not unusual for OEM manufacturers to have their branded parts considerably discounted from the Toyota-branded parts.

Take, for example water pumps and radiators. Denso and Aisin make these for Toyota. If you buy the Toyota-branded part from a dealership (even the online discount dealers) you’re looking at $300+ each. RockAuto has the Denso and Aisin parts for $75-90.

Seller is Asianauto on eBay. 99.6% seller rating and mostly deals in Japanese OEM auto parts. I think it’s legit. Here’s a link to the idlers. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323395249428

can you team me more about the "jet engine" whine? I've been trying to diagnose a whine from my '13 4.0, that comes and goes between 1500and2k RPM's, belt is fairly new, replaced idler pulley #1, replaced the tensioner last weekend (that was a pain in the ass), and still haven't fixed the whine..... I haven't had any problems with the other accessories, AC works fine, no whine when turning from the PS pump, no power problems from the alternator.... wondering if its related to one of those or maybe the water pump? any insight would be really appreciated

I have 356k on my 07 Taco... original pulleys! Getting ready to do a timing cover reseal so I'm going to swap out for new pulleys among some other parts while I'm in there. But... just wanted to shout out my solid OEM parts on this old lady with a lot of miles.
