If you think this is dumb, tell a mod to delete it.

    For 3RZs only.

I know there's a couple High Mileage Club threads out there, but I thought maybe adding a poll for users to track their mileage "milestones" for a visual representation might work. After hitting a milestone, you should be able to edit your poll to reflect the change. This way, users can get an idea of how long these trucks can go.

Of course, I know this community doesn't represent all the trucks in existence, but who cares?

I'm specifically interested in the 3RZ because that's what I have. I've heard the V6s have more longevity, so if we combined them in the poll, that wouldn't be an accurate representation. If this kicks off, maybe make it a sticky? Make another for the V6s? Or this could fizzle out, whatever.

    ~119,800 miles on mine!

If someone has rebuilt or modded, or boosted the engine, then how do you account for that in your poll? The data you're probably looking for would be from stock engines maintained using factory parts.

    I'd question that source.

I don't really know I guess. I'm not a data analyst. I kinda meant how high can you go by any means. Any suggestions to change the poll?

No, whatever you like, it's your poll. I would be curious to see what some people have put on them.

A few months back, I met someone with a '95 SR5 (V6), same color as mine and we drove each other's trucks. His was a completely different animal. The engine, besides the power, ran so much smoother. And mine has a really annoying vibration at idol. From what I've read, most people have that.

If I had the option, I would never get the 3RZ unless my intention was to boost it, but my truck was a gift from my father-in-law and I was living in South Korea, so there was no option for me.

Because these engines were in most the all base model 4X4 tacoma's and 4-runners....
there are a ton of these engines around.....steady supply of salvage, rebuilt, and aftermarket everything and the kitchen sink for em....
These engines arnt goning away anytime soon, if taken care of, avoid the crazies on the road, you could set a personal best for longest engine ever owned.....the 22RE people drool over these....

I personally like the 2.4 better, think it can last even longer......as long as you can get your little 2wd 5lug out of everybody's way......

The 5vz's I dont see as many hit that super old age.....the 1st gen v8 tundra's are taking that honor.....

5vz's lack of an internal timing chain is its biggest Achillies heel....and Honda engines too.....really.........

The 5vz's arent really highway cruisers, big gas difference there.....
3rz/2rz much much better for long daily commutes.....

But everyones different, my boss has so much equipment we use daily, a V8 tundra - stupid ass short bed - cant carry it all, so he commutes/drags a tanden wheel trailer behind him, everywhere he go's..........boy he sure should of bought something with a diesel..instead of that 5.7.....
but that's a whole another forum....

That's probably mostly due to the secondary imbalances inherent to a large-displacement inline 4. A V6 is a more naturally balanced engine design, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily longer-lasting.

Yeah, personally I'd rather have the V6 even if the life is shorter and requires more maintenance/rebuilds.

Have you experienced the 3RZ with the balance shafts removed?
One of my future goals with my truck is getting more power out of it.

347,xxx on my 97 3rz. It’s been rode hard and put away wet most of its life on the finest of supertech conventional oil.

    3rz > 5vz any day.

If I ever have my timing chain cover off, I will be removing my balance shafts. I saw a video from an Australian guy doing a DIY removal without a kit. I also saw the kit. I plan to use the LCE kit eventually. Another option is to just remove the balance shaft chains and leave the shafts static.

I thought I wanted the V6 before I bought mine (though I had never driven one), but the one I bought happened to be the 3RZ instead. Turns out I like it. Easy to work in the engine bay. One less head and fewer parts. The V6 only has a bit more HP than the 4 cyl anyway doesn't it?

Well, don't they all burn gas technically? I like your numbers tho.

Man I really like seeing those numbers. Gives me hope for mine.

I thought that was for racing builds. I'd be afraid of unintended consequences if removing it. Wouldn't it rattle you to death? They already idle pretty rough.

I don't remember who, but a couple other users here recently did it and reported there was little to no difference in vibration, probably because at higher mileage, the shafts are doing little good anymore anyway due to bearing wear.

I forgot to add a 150,000+ option to the poll. I added it but couldn't reorder the list.
