Does anyone know if the cam bolts on the 3rz are torque to yield? I was in the middle of installing the cams and the bolts don’t want to torque to 12 foot pounds. I’m afraid that I’ll snap one of them.

I did order one new bolt and it seems that the old bolts are a little longer than the the new one. Looks like the old bolts have stretched…

A bit hairy to torque down but I never considered that they would be torque to yield like head bolts are. It is always prudent to ask those types of questions concerning TTY bolts. I reused mine without ill effects, no snapping and the engine runs fine.

Yeah, my 95 FSM doesn’t mention it as well. It doesn’t even mention the head bolts being torque to yield, but I have been told to always use new head bolts. Weird… this engine has been rebuilt before I owned it. Maybe the bolts are only good for one rebuild? I’m going to order the rest of the cam bolts tomorrow. We’ll see if it fixes the problem.

    I agree
Most of the bolts just seem to keep turning and not torquing. The torque read, on my digital torque wrench, would stay around 11 foot pounds. I would turn and turn, in sequence, and it just wouldn’t tighten. Some of them did torque, but others seemed sketchy so I stopped. Didn’t want a 15 minute job turn into a three day job… we’ll see what happens with the new bolts.

I applaud your decision definitely best to err on the side of caution. I actually had a connecting rod journal bolt snap on me and another just wouldn't tighten.

Well I installed the new bolts and they torqued right up. The first picture is the old bolt and it stretched a mm, compared to the new bot (second picture.) 10438CE7-1367-4897-BDD7-1CF2A9E3EE67.jpg B982FDB0-7B51-4CBB-9009-83EDCA83E419.jpg
