The cops around here have bigger fish to fry- I know a lot of them and they all vouch for this. It's Florida, it's hot.

The shop I prefer will not do illegal tint. Since they offer Llumar with a lifetime warranty, including pinching, and every car they have done for me since the 80's has been perfect, I choose to stay with them.

So. Front windows get 'legal'. On a sedan I'll have the back windows match the front, and often the back glass as well. Just depends on the shape of the car.

On a reg cab truck I had the back glass 'limo' dark, doors 'legal'.

On the access cab, I've not decided to do anything. Yet. Fronts would be legal, and back limo. But I might have the small side windows limo'd as well.

BTW, tint laws can vary greatly from state to state. If you think/know you may register the vehicle in another state before you sell it, check the laws in that state. When son in law and daughter moved from Florida w/legal tint to VA for grad school, tint had to be stripped.

Also, if you state has inspections, your inspectors may test your tint and fail you. Seen it happen. So, just be cautious if you are in an inspection state.

As far as LEOs go, most don't care regarding a single issue stop. However, if you are stopped for another violation, their is a high chance the tint will get piled on.

Haha thanks! Yes I had mine done 15% in the front and 25% on the back and sunroof which matches pretty good. Also got some wind deflectors and will be posting a picture later

5% in rear and 35% up front. No front tint is legal in our state. 3m color stable

You can kind of see through the fronts in this picture. I didn't want them to match, I wanted as dark in the rest and as 'legal' in the front to not get pulled over for it

I had 3M Color Stable 35 done around the whole truck, aside from the windshield. I had factory privacy glass in the rear, but wanted the added uv/heat protection. 3M Color Stable is one of the few films that give a lifetime warranty on discoloration (will never turn purple). Legal front door window tint here in HI is 35. If you get checked for tint, the light transmitter needs to read 29, because of the light lost through the glass itself along with the tint. When you read my fronts, they are 28, until you press both sensors together. Then they read 29. So technically this is the darkest you can get here legally. I was kind of skeptical going with 35 over the factory 20 in the rears, but I think it turned out excellent. Dark as to where you need to be within a few feet to see inside at all, but when looking outwards it is still clear and vivid. Attached are the specs for factory tint, and how we figured out what route to go withimage.jpg . Took this off a second gen thread, so it may not be exactly the same

Leo`s give tons of tickets for window tint here, so I stayed legal, 32% on front, the rear is still factory but Ive been thinking about going with 5% in the rear.

What is exactly is legal in Calif? I really don't want to be one to give "Probable cause" for a hassle. Does the inside of the tint on door glass start showing scratches from cleaning or going up and down? I remember years ago that happened.

Dents in roof from poorly loaded canoe. Broken side mirror from blown transfer truck tire. Scuffed up front bumper from thinking I was still in a corolla. Graham cracker embedded upholstery from a crazy kid.
I did 30% front and 40% rear. I'm old and didn't want it too much darker. They don't match, but it looks pretty good under normal lighting, is almost legal, and I can see through it at night with ease. This was my first window tinting. If I had to do it over I might go 25% in front.

In Washington tint is a secondary offense so you have to be caught speeding or something for them to harass you for the tint in the first place

No way? That's a lot better than having a certain tint percentage.

Here I went to get my windows tinted and the guy at the tinting shop convinced me not to even tint my passenger and driver windows because he has a lot of returning customers with tickets so a majority return to get the tint taken off.
