Getting my windows done Friday at a custom truck body shop but still don't know how dark to go. To me the back isn't dark enough so I don't really want to just match it. Can I get some comments/suggestion? and please upload some pictures so I can get an idea! thanks this is urgent!

    One piece of advice...
If you want them to match from the outside go with 20% difference front/rear.
If you want it to match on the inside go with 10% difference front/rear.

This is probably not as dark as you would like, but here is mine for reference. I didn't want to be a cop magnet, as 35% is the legal limit here for the fronts. I pushed the boundary a little (20 fronts and 50 rears--Huper Optik Ceramic), and have no REGERTS.

I used this as a reference, and it worked out great for my combination. The match is perfect. I can't vouch for the rest of the combinations, but it seems to have a good quantitative approach

Don't how much can you see from these pics but I don't have any better at this point.
    Rear 5%
Front 20% (in my state legal 35%).

Very helpful! So if I do 20 in the front and 50 in the rear than they match pretty good?

I like it, I saw a picture where they done 20% all around and it looked pretty good. Is the fronts hard to see out of during the day and night?

    Extremely well

I might be able to get a pic of mine from inside later today and post it up here. I wouldn't call it dark, but it's dark enough for me. It's not easy to see in the truck, but also not impossible. I didn't want to give someone a reason to pull me over :D

Hindsight: I told them no windshield strip, because I don't really like those...but I should have asked them to use that material for the moon roof glass!

Edit: Also, the ceramic was worth it

During day no problem. At night not the best, but I used to it plus with back up camera no problem for me. My 4Runner has the same percentage for over 5 years now, no problem from officers.

I originally wanted the ceramic but HECK, it was going to cost me over $400 to have all of the windows done in ceramic. Are they that much better than just regular tinting? what is the difference? and if you could upload a picture of your truck later it would be highly appreciated (an image of the outside and inside)

This is it from the outside, with some sun on part of it and a light background on another part (fence)

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ur-3rd-gen-today.399305/page-15#post-11153714

I'll try to get the inside pic later today and another one from outside but closer.

The ceramic blocks heat better than most carbons, but it's not a crazy difference. It is also supposed to have superior resistance to fading over time, but then again some carbon films have great resistance to fading (lifetime warranty). It is all up to what your purpose is in tinting. If it's purely cosmetic, then don't bother with it and save the money where you can. If it is for blocking heat from the sun and longevity, I recommend it if you can swing the extra cost, or go with a higher grade carbon film. They were running a deal when I got mine and it was only $100 more than the regular tint. They had a demo setup in the showroom with a halogen lamp and you could tell a distinct heat difference between the two. How much exactly? Who knows, but I went for it :rofl:And I bet the 'regular tint' was just dyed film and not a higher grade carbon film.

Some people also say that ceramic can sometimes cause reflections inside the car, but I think all tints do that to some extent. I'm 100% happy with my selection though. From what I've heard I lucked out as Huper Optik is one of the better ones.

Basically steer clear of dyed film, and metallic film.

I don't have any pictures handy, but I did 20% on the front two windows. Pretty close to the factory rear tint. The front might be a hair darker. I've been thinking about taking it back to the tint guy and have him do 5% on the rear windows.
Nothing on the front windows is legal here in NJ, but I have yet to be stopped for it. FWIW, the truck looks better with it than without, so maybe cops like it.
