    Yep
SO I caught his team casing my Tacoma the other day in a public parking lot.

Three of them were in two vehicles who took off real quick when I walked up and jumped in. Fortunately, it was not quite dark yet and I had only stopped for five minutes to grab a to go order.

Not sure if they were after the whole vehicle or just that Cat converter.

Anyway, I have the on board Toyota security and the glass break add-on. It's okay. Someone actually hit the tire the other day and it set the system off, but ya gotta give it a considerable bump in my option. I miss the nudge sensor /chirp that the CodeAlarm had on my last truck.

Looks like the option for that now is the Viper 3606v.

Has anyone added this Viper to a 3rd gen? What do you think of it?

    Thanks

    Alarms are for honest thieves.
Dishonest thieves require something more.....like a large caliber.

    Oh look, another mod....

I would recommend getting a cat shield and an alarm WITH a hidden kill switch. Get something that disables the starter. If the truck can't start, then it can't drive away.

Does most alarms have this feature (engine kill) built in? I know mine does.

I had the motion sensor option added to my alarm. I put a 2 ft zone around the car. I had it set to go off when someone walk to the house door. The bad is, dogs will set it off. There's also an option remote that will go off when your alarm goes off. My friend's remote will tell him what door got trigger. It's been a long time since I look at an alarm. I don't know want's available today.

I know people who put alarm sensors under their vehicle. This was when catalytic converter robbery was at its worst here.

The viper was outdated in the 90s. No car alarm is going to stop a large motley crew from taking whatever they want.

If they can't start it... they just load it on a flat bed.

Do you really think a thief is going to have a flat bed available to do this? That takes time & money. These are two things that thieves do not have.

Please think before you post next time. Thanks.

Lol, think what you want... it happens far more often than you think.

Unless you think they are just worried about tweakers?

Get an EV, I can't recall ever reading about an EV being stolen. I saw a stolen recovered Tesla that wasn't damaged, and two young women picked the car up. That was 100% unauthorized uses, and not stolen off the street.

You'd be surprised. There have been thieves operating right here in DFW doing that. They're equipped exactly like repo guys, with the hidden tow bar in the back of an F350. No one knows if they're building them like that or if they're just stealing them from a repo contractor. Once they have one they'll lift cars right out of people's driveways, takes less than 20 seconds to hitch and go. Neighbor's Camaro got taken like that.

PS, it's a good practice to keep your drive axle furthest from the street. It won't stop a well equipped thief, but it will slow them down if you make them use a wheel dolly.

... It's better practice to keep your shit in the garage.

My Honda Goldwing and my wife's Prius get the garage. My truck is odd man out, so it lives in the driveway.

It's not uncommon at all especially for higher value vehicles.

I've see people use a soft shackle and a snatch block to winch a vehicle away from the curb, when there wasn't enough room to get to the drive axle at a 90° angle. For not having a parking permit.

    Yep
    Good thread y'all,

I appreciate all of the feedback.

Fascinating because I usually parallel park on the curb when I do this run and I thought about that, but all those spots were full. I'll come back to this in a sec.

I have the alarm warning stickers, disengage starter, blinking security light and all that. Tweekers pay no mind it seems. That is why I was thinking about adding the close motion chirp feature via Viper.

In this case, I had parked in wide open public lot pace with no one behind, in front, or on either side of the truck. I was thinking that this would reduce my risk of door dings ...

So, if they were after the whole truck? I was making it easy.

I guess the lesson is that parallel curb parking can be anti theft and when people park behind my tail gate I could think of it more as being helpful than annoying. ;)

If you can get the truck in the space, you or anyone else can get the truck out of that same space.

I bought some fake alarm stickers off of e-bay. I noticed you can also buy the Viper stickers on there as well. I figure alarm stickers might help a little bit when the hyenas are figuring which gazelle to pick from the herd.
