3rd Gen Tacoma Super White Peeling Paint

Any 3rd gen super white Tacoma owners also have peeling paint within the first couple of years? I know Toyota has had a paint recall on other models in super white but not the Tacoma’s. Not even 3 years in and already peeling paint that I had to pay to get touched up as it went to bare metal. You know it wasn’t cheap. Toyota just tells me my complaint has been saved lol

 

Whats the squiggly line above the chipped paint? Is that a touchup that is peeling againg? It looks like it was painted over the top of a damaged area

Yes OP. Lots of super white owners having paint issues. For tacoma*

tundras don’t seem to have this much of an issue though

Hey man so I have your same problem and it’s either a problem with the clear coat or the primer they use in the white colors, what I did was go to my local Toyota and they did a inspection and they are fixing the paint for free hope this helps and you can do the same

I’m almost positive it’s the primer not adhering. I was told as it’s past it’s warranty it would not qualify for this.

 

Yeah, I’ve seen a long list of complaints on this on the internet. Crazy how this hasn’t been addressed for Tacomas but it has for almost every other model in the same paint code?

 

It is a very short list compared to the 350K whit Tacomas that have been sold since 2016. I'm sorry for your problems but it is a small batch compared to the volume of white Tacomas sold. Oh, mine is a white 2021 and I was fully aware when I bought it.

 

I don't think white employs a clear coat.

 

It has a clear that is mixed into the paint, making it different, but it has a clear coat nonetheless.

Wonder if it’s better to black vinyl wrap that area similar to that section in between the front and rear side windows

 

My buddies Tacoma is peeling in the exact same spot. Is yours also peeling in the engine bay where the hood and fender line up?

 

You know how many tacomas are having this issue? Is this a public number?

 

I’ve had heavy oxidation as well two years in that I had to buff out cause of a weak clear coat. I work in paint and a “mixed in clear” is not a true clear coat. Lacking protection.

 

The number is not public but you talked about a long list. I do know they have built hundreds of thousands of white tacomas. Your long list is not that long.

lol I know. But he used the "long list" unit of measurement and even I know that any more than 100 equals a shit ton of vehicles. I like the "shit ton" unit of measurement, not the "long list" unit of measurement.

 

Mine is peeling on the hood.

 

What year is your truck cause mine is a 17 and they still are doing it
