    Hello,

New to the form but curious if anyone has built a race truck from a 3rd Gen Tacoma? I've done some mods and hope to race on the track as well as drag for fun. Anyone else going more on road preformace, aby input would be great!

    Thanks, Kyle

How much money are you willing to waste, and do you want to win?

Even modified, the drivetrain combo just isn't going to overcome the power to weight needed to be competitive on asphalt.

Take the mod budget and buy a used miata. You'll have much more fun.

I autocross a 1st gen and would say in ways its more fun than a sports car in the way people take note and appreciate the little truck out there since no one expects anything from a Tacoma racing.. but lobster has a point that it will take a bunch of mods and effort to not be a sports car at the end of the day and would realistically be more about having fun than winning trophies.

This issue seems to be further amplified that you have a bigger heavier double cab 4x4 as your starting point.. however check out my autocross thread for my experience and to get an idea of what it may take, there was a couple guys that chimed in with racing trucks and even a guy racing his 4runner on the track with unexpected results and having a blast!

Just my thought - your truck may actually be WAY MORE FUN AS IS hitting an off road trail and smashing the pedal on the right while in 4x4 since this is more what it was designed for.. I do both and would never sell my 3rd gen 4runner for dirty fun in the wilderness duties!!

A 3rd gen would not be my vehicle of choice. Unless you have unlimited credit :spending:

Threading the needle is not a game for body on frame vehicles.

Slow ride it. Crank tunes and cruise while laughing at the assholes who are needlessly going aggro on nothing but their own blood pressure. Realize that if you just go with the flow your average commute is all of two minutes longer.

Try "picking a lane and then sticking with it" for a month. Be the easy going guy. It's free. No desecrating a pro with needless mods required. You'll find yourself unloading tension that you had no idea you were carrying.
