The ecu used in the 3rd gen 2.7 is toyota 1.5mb/2.0 196/199 NEC series microcontroller.
It uses Toyotas older, can control and the ecu content cannot be dumped.
I know practically everything about this ecu because the same one is used in other models.
I wish I could get in it, but so far nobody can.
Just like the 2019 tundra. Same ecu / canbus code.

Until toyota releases some form of an update, nobody can get inside.

URD's supercharger kit says it comes with some sort of programming for the ECU, what did they do? Is it some sort of piggyback to the ECU?

That kit is for the non 3rd gen and looks like UCON piggyback from their product description.

I have no reason to lie to you guys, if I could get into the ecu I would have a long time ago

Yes. I’m surprised you even got those numbers on the freeway with 33s, AT, and stock gearing. At 70 yes, it’ll jump into 4th because 5th leaves rpms too low (not in the 2.7s powerband yet) for big tires and a lift.

Regear bud, you’ll be glad you did. Or go back to stock tires. I’m a 5spd manual and wouldn’t dare go past my 265/76/16 (32s). 4.88 will be required for 33s, You may even need 5.29 depending on what your stock ratios look like.

A noble effort, indeed. But the fortress walls of the legendary 2.7 are still holding, impenetrable, protecting its legacy.

I mean, with install, isn't that like an extra 2 grand? Not worth it honestly. Yeah the MPG sucks, but the 2.7 motor is good for it, and can handle it. If I went on the interstate everyday I would maybe try to learn more about it. Here I have guys telling me to regear, and other guys telling me it won't make a difference on the highway. I would need to talk face to face with a pro who's familiar with the 2.7 6speed automatic to even consider it.

I only made the jump to 265/75/16s and im not sure if the 5.29s are going to be overkill with the 5 speed. Even with the stock 3.91's, its not THAT bad, so I'm thinking 4.88's or even a set of 4.30's would be more than OK. I prefer snappy acceleration and dont mind the higher RPM's but we'll see

I would like to see how a set of 4.30’s would feel with theses E rated 265/75-16’s

If you have a 3rd gen, only 4.88s are available. 4.30s would be pointless anyways even if they made them, IMO if you’re looking for “snappy.”

Again, this is a 3rd gen thread, there is no company (as of now) who makes 4.30s for 2016+ Tacoma’s...

Get an OEM set from a wrecked 3rd gen manual 3.5L. They are 4.30.

ECGS has 4.30, 4.88, and 5.29 listed for the 8.75 3rd gen rear end (MT)

    News to me..

    News to me about ECGS...

...still absolutely pointless to go 4.30 in a heavy ass 3rd gen 2.7. Won’t be enough for 33s so may as well save the couple grand and accept being gutless lol.

@OP, is there still hope for the 2nd gen 2.7 for a tune? I have a 4 speed auto.

Yes absolutely. We've already tuned one with boost too. We just have to compile all of this stuff to release it.
