First I’d like to say that I am new to Tacoma and truck ownership. I have a 1994 FZJ80 but now going to start modifying my Tacoma. I’ve got a 2019 TRD Offroad and I am looking at upgrading the suspension. I am looking for more control on and offroad with a more compliant ride. I live in a place with pretty poor road quality and I enjoy desert running, and riding fire and ranch roads. I am running 265/75R16 BFG KO2s on the stock suspension and I really like the tires and I’ll likely keep the size because I believe they are a good balance for on and offroad use and I’ve only seen about .5 mpg drop overall.

I really am not looking to lift the truck significantly and I have been looking at just upgrading to a 2.5 coilover in the front and a 2.5 in the rear. With this setup I’d lift the front about an inch and keep the rear stock. I am not married to this plan but I’d like to hear opinions from the community on this set up based upon my desires or recommendations. Suspension budget is $5000. Thanks in advance for the help!

Buy a set of Bilstein 5100s, level the front out with those, run your current tires. Save $4,500 for other modes.

The 5100s are definitely more planted and stiff, though still have a very nice ride quality around town.

If you’re wanting to move up to 285s and do the back end too, that’s a whole other beast.

welcome to the Taco life friend!!

i would highly recommend the Fox DSC coilovers and shocks, the ride quality is basically unmatched and adjustability is awesome, DSC means Dual Speed Control meaning you have 2 adjustment knobs to tune the suspension just right for your liking on and offroad. The coilovers are height adjustable from stock height up to about 3in(before the ride becomes too stiff and spring is overloaded), paired up with Camburg Control arms you will have a great ride, more planted suspension and great travel all around for the days you hit the harder trails.

We sell a lot of FOX DSC kits here at Westcott Designs in Phoenix, as well as Bilstein and King, but our overall best customer responses all come from the FOX products.

Icon Stage 5, about 2.25" lift with 265/75 Ko2's. Been this way for almost 3 years and I love it. Goes anywhere and has that sleeper look. The only thing Id opt to do is not go with the Icon AAL pack and go with the full leaf pack. I mean the AAL has been great to me but Id like a little bit more firmness in the year personally.

I am running 6112's in the front set for a hlf inch of lift and 5160's out back. The ride improved greatly for the money imo.

TRD Pro suspension with Headstrong 3 Leaf AAL, DV8 OR front slimline bumper & Engine Skid Plate, RCI OR high clearance bumper, CaliRaised Trail Edition Sliders, Spidertrax 1.25" Wheel Spacers, 265/75 16 GY Duratracs, wrapped the OEM wheels, OR Roof Rack, Extang Exceed Hard top Tri fold tonneau.
I picked up a used TRD Pro Fox suspension system for $550. It has been a wonderful upgrade, and totally eats washboard type roads, and is a huge improvement over the Off Road Bilsteins. There are lots of people that replace them on their Pros because they want the big lift, so they are available frequently here, on FB Marketplace, or Craigslist. I don't feel the need for the big lift, at present I am 36 1/2" from the ground to the fender on the front, and 37" on the rear and I'm very happy with the TRD Pro Fox system running 265/75 16 GY Duratracs.

Bilstein 8112 front and 8110 Reat with Icon RXT rear leafs, Set for 1.5" Front, 1.75" rear.

Since I have a front winch and a Warn Semi-hidden front bumper I went with 650# front springs...

Makes the stock shocks look tiny.

I compared a lot of the popular suspensions out there,
and these have outperformed on and off-road.
