Hello all, I just purchased my Tacoma about two weeks ago, and I’ve already ordered the $250 speaker upgrade as well as sound deadening that I will install myself. Now my question is, what kind of sub boxes are out there where you don’t have to cut the child seat anchors, and can actually get some good type of bump from the sub? I’m coming from two 12” JLw3’s from my previous car, while I know I can’t get that, I would like something where I can bump out when I’d like to. Any suggestions?

I did see this at Crutchfield, and was wondering if anyone has any experience with putting this in their Tacoma?

To date, I have swapped out the fronts for Focal 6x9 ISS 690 with tweeters (inline crossovers), Added Rear speakers - Focal 165AC. Sound deadener all the doors and the back of the cab and a good portion of the floor. Just waiting on the sub box to finish things up. All currently being driven by Rockford Fosgate Amp. - P1000X5

I presume you are intending on removing the plastic storage areas.. that enclosure is too wide to fit. One storage has a width of 26 inches and the one behind the drivers is 14 and 1/2 wide. They do come out in 2 pieces however.

    Width (inches) 36
    Height (inches) 11

That’s a really nice setup! Those subs are pricey, but I’ve heard they are the best shallow sub on the market from multiple people.

I called Mr. Marv, he’s going to be setting me up with a box for some shallow 10 kicker L7T. Won’t be as good as yours, but I’ll be able to save some money as i just bought the lift and tires too.

Thank you.. I thought long and hard about getting them.. In the last truck I was running 10 Rockford P3D4. and these pretty much have the same specs crammed into a much smaller footprint.

Mr Marv will build a box a much better than off the shelf solutions... specific to the subs you get. The quality of his work is outstanding and so is his knowledge and desire to help people... Just a thought.. if you get a box for one sub you will have the whole other side for mounting amps / processors .. etc. If I ever get around to another amp to drive the subs, I may have to resort to an under the seat mount solution. I ran that in my last truck which was an access cab.

@jim Always nice seeing people take the time to do that kind of work, only those of us that have done this know the pleasure and pain. I have doors, floor, and wall with cld and ccf. MLV almost done on all areas but roof (sun roof).I have the storage well and I have to redo the back wall because of Marvs box and board fits so snug. My new build is getting closer and closer....

@phocas .. Very true.. As this is my 3rd tacoma truck I continue to learn little tweeks and changes over the years that certainly help out the end result. Sure there is a lot of work involved.. but I look at it as a one off. The hours spent now will pay dividends for the life of the truck.

The old access can I had turned out pretty good and a lot of the parts were recycled into this truck as well.
This was not quite the finished product but you get the idea. I also made another top cover with a hinge to access the DSP.. and to provide a more stealth look in the end.

This is what I have for my low end, enclosure was about $210, Subs were $160, Amp was $170

Looks to be a little less costly than that JL set up and I'm pushing 1,200W RMS on a 1 Ohm load. I'm fairly certain it would beat the rear view off the windshield if I let it ride at the full 1,200W.

Ditched the plastic storage bins and it fits snug as a bug. Very nice enclosure trom CT Sounds and it was delivered quick.

Installed these subs which are amazing IMO. Can't beat the price.

This is my first Tacoma, I have learned so much and i tell you, i could do just about all of this in half the time if i did it over again. Luckily other than tabs, i just had to replace one seatbelt and use my tap and die a couple times lol.

It does get easier the more you do it.. LOL.. Some things were exactly the same over the years.. Such as the exact same crappy stock speakers with the yellow sponge..

I myself hope to wrap this project up soon.. The sub box should arrive by the end of the week and then I can finally come down the home stretch.. I'll have to see if I can keep the child seat stays or of those will have to get removed. I'm sure the box will have it's challenges but nothing that can't be overcome. I really am glad I went with the shallow mounts as opposed to the normal configurations with the sub.. It sure is pretty tight back there behind the rear seat.

I had to make room for mlv so i ditched the one child seat tab (our car seat doesnt even require it) and removed one other bracket on the lower wall. Those who attempt this, those lower brackets directly on the wall have VERY thin metal backings, its VERY easy to make a hole. Thanks to Mr Marv for that advice before i did something bad. lol

I hear you on the metal being thin. I’ll use a grinder or a hacksaw on the brackets if they have to come out. A hole in the bulkhead would be no bueno.

I was sooooooo close to getting some Skar audio subs. I’ve heard nothing but great things about them, and the economical factor of the price is amazing.
