This is something that needs to be said. From my experience when a limiter kicks in your stuck at whatever speed and it stays there. A governor cuts the fuel and it drops off about 5 mph then you can climb back up to the cut off point. I’m writing this because I was reading an old post about ways to bypass this. I’m not here to preach. I understand that you can’t tell someone how to drive his/her vehicle. But I will say this. Track or open desert the Tacoma is a great towing/ off-road truck hands down and this is stock. Upgraded, this thing can get down right crazy. However, this is not a civic or accord ( yes I’m a honda fan). It does not have a low center of gravity. I does not have a wide wheel base. It does not typically ride on Pirelli tires. In other words, to attempt speeds that high, an oversteer correction or a mechanical failure would result in a catastrophic loss of control and most likely a roll over and a fatality. I just letting the fast drivers and that speeds above 80 let alone 110-130mph is TOTALLY different in a low center of gravity car vs a high center of gravity truck. In other words would you take your Accord off-road or mud/stream driving? Why not? Because it’s not meant for that?
Well the Tacoma is not meant for high speed. It’s meant for a different kind of fun. So for the younger less experienced drivers please heed someone who’s been driving for 30years pick your vehicle to match your style. And for the older driver that know better.... well remember there are others who will follow your example. Just saying

It's less Tacoma and more mod
I've already flipped a Tacoma, I advise people not to follow me anyway. Doesn't mean I didn't rebuild it and supercharger it and disable the governor though. Also Hondas are just as scary, well not stock... Stock Hondas are slow. But modded ones are understeer kings, understeer is way scarier and harder to correct.

Do we have a growing epidemic of people trying to disable governors? I wasn’t even aware the truck had one.

Isn't the "governor" really just a shit factory ECU map? OV Tune FTW.

Aside from that, the biggest governor/limiter in these trucks is the slow as molasses throttle-by-wire. OV Tune should sort that too.

Sure wish the OV Tune bro would do a a tune for the 4 banger, already. :frusty:

Don't quote me on this, but AFAIK Mat didn't mess with the limiter (rev nor speed) with any of the 3rd gen 2GR tunes. No need IMO. Agreed on the throttle though, big difference there (at least with the M/T tune).

Lol, I've driven my truck at a high rate of knots (100+) a couple of times and TBH it wasn't pleasant or fun at all. OR suspension all floaty, both front door seals playing a kazoo note, and the Duratracs wobbling and singing like crazy.

Yeah I'd also like to see what he could do for the 2.7.

Are you suggesting there is both a rev limiter and a speed governor?

The rev limiter is designed for engine safety.

It takes an engine with guts to actually hit the rev limiter in high gear, and I'm not sure the Tacoma could. It doesn't exactly have aero much better than a brick.

Using the mathematically calculated top speed based on OE gearing and the assumed ability to hit the limiter, is a governor actually needed?

Most vehicles with governors are capable of exceeding the speed rating of really good tires that they come with. Not seeing that here...... 'cause tires aren't that capable.

that warning label is posted in just about every vehicle ever sold......hell, my Mini Cooper had one.

should you avoid high speeds in an off road vehicle.....yeah probably.

should you FORCE people to abide by the speeds that YOU deem safe.......no.

ive had my truck well up over 90mph....on the highway, you arent making sudden turns so your likelihood of flipping is VERY VERY low......

you arent likely to flip your truck on the highway going straight......you are likely to due it on a windy road.......and you dont need to be doing 100+ to due it.......you can very easily flip your truck at 30-50.

What is the point of this thread again?

The WHOLE truck is a speed limiter on the freeway...When radar COPs see a taco on the road they know that the day is gone as in speeding tickets.

Hey thanks for the reply dickhead. “Sounds like someone is trying to preach”. Funny if you can read I said “I’m not trying to preach”. I was just saying that this is a truck not a race car and I will not handle well at high speed. If you want to race it out and go balls out at 200 mph feel free it’s a free country. Well, until they lock you up and take you truck. Ha ha. Listen I’m just as guilty as the next guy ( assuming anyone is guilty)
I was just giving advice to younger less experienced drivers. I can tell you this .. 130 in a lowered car verses 130 in a raised pick up truck has a totally different feel. So... just shut up and go troll another thread. Try to contribute instead of criticize. Opinions are like assholes.. everyone has one. And I just met one. Nice to meet you
