    Hey everyone,
I know there has been some talk on this, but I see no official answer.
Do you need to have a diff drop for a 2-3" lift? Some people are saying it is more hazardous to off-road with. Some say it is better for the obvious reason of the reduced CV angles. Does it really reduce the angles that much?

I have 2 1/4 lift in the front and 1.5 in back...no diff drop and no issues in 20k miles. The truck tracks straight and steering wheel is smooth as silk at any speed.

My 3'' lift is going on next thrusday and it's a trusted Toyota Tech friend of mine. He's wiz with yota's. I'll report back about if we drop mine or not, and any info he's gotta say.

As soon as you change one angle, it interferes with something else. If you diff drop, you solve cv angles, but then your forward shaft feels it. Unless you gut and re engineer, something is going to be out of the engineered range. You’re better off without the diff drop, and install the ecgs bushing, and be conservative with how high you set your lift, if longevity is a concern.

It’s not that bad, but I haven’t gotten a wheel alignment either, yet. Will it help? Or will a diff drop kit help in this case?

I’d just like to chime in and say that the sway bar is excellent as a pull-up bar, where it is currently serving out its sentence away from my truck. It drives magnificent.

Those angles look bad without a drop IMO. Your boot ribs shouldn’t be touching

Lifted my 4runner, ended up with 2.75" and 3" up front. CV angles looked bad but really didn't want to do a diff drop because I heard bad things about potentially catching it off road. Front end had a vibration to it that wasn't the diff bearing. I figured I'd give the drop a chance, installed it and the CV angle looked much better, also the vibrations stopped. I also ended up buying a skid for the front so I didn't really worry much about catching the diff after that.

My personal recommendation wont be popular but I would recommend a 2" lift at most, seems like anything north of 2.5" puts the CVs at an aggressive angle.

Add it if the boot folds touch or nearly do. Add it later if you are trying to diagnose a post lift vibration and all simpler factors have been ruled out. I have done it both ways.

Cool. I actually went the other way, relocating it to pull the wheel slightly sooner.
