Anyone with a 3rd Gen V6 have their cats (Catalytic Converters) stolen? I know the 4 bangers are easy to steal but are the ones in the V6 being stolen? Just wondering if it is easy to steal like other vehicles or alot more difficult so thats why we dont hear much about them being stolen.

Considering how many Tacoma are in Hawaii, I figured I would hear more thefts of them if it was a problem.

Absolutely. Dozens of posts about recent cat thefts on Reddits r/ToyotaTacoma. It’s enough of an issue that Toyota now offers MillerCatshields as an accessory on the Tacoma “build” page of their website.

There are 4 total . Two are tucked in with the manifolds , those are almost impossible to get. But there are two down stream that are in the perfect place for theft.

Factory cats are ridiculously expensive to replace , not to mention additional cost of any sensors and harnesses that get cut during theft. Talking thousands $ at a dealer to bring it back to pre-loss condition .

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
This is part of the reason why my 38,000.00 Tacoma cost slightly more to insure than a 72,000.00 commercial vehicle (2021 ram 3500)

Thanks for the responses. I read they were closer to the manifolds but didnt know about the 2 more right at the bottom of the truck that are ripe for the picking. I guess at this point may be worth buying a cat shield for piece of mind.

Do yourself a favor and crawl under your Taco once in awhile. It sounds like you have never been under there and keeping an eye on things like CV boots and looking for small leaks before they become a real problem is smart.

I change my own oil and have removed my skid plate every time but i guess i never bothered to look further back or never really noticed to see if there was actually a cat back there since i just assumed the cats were close to the manifold. These seems like it would do the trick.

Wonder if insurance would discount premium if shield was installed...?

Depends on what part of the country you're in. Where I'm at, a cat shield was one of my first purchases
Dang that's the cheapest priced one I've seen. Advantages of this design is more convenient access to the transmission pan for service. The other designs cover up the transmission which may help as a skid plate.

Yes, mine was stolen in August out in Chicago. I got mine replaced with an aftermarket unit. Does anybody know if this will hurt resale value?

I asked my insurance about this and they dont offer discount for having a shield. That my policy covers it after a $500 deductible. Rather pay $170 for some shields than $500.BTW my insurance is Allstate. Not sure if the other companies have a different approach.

Im sold too. Placed an order as well. I think for the price seems to be a really good deal and you'll have some peace of mind. I plan on painting them with the black bedliner spray.

this is by far the best shield i have seen. stainless steel and much cheaper than popular aluminum shield and you can still get to the front propeller zerks.
    damn.
however, the website slide show is annoying. :) click on the buttons below the pics to stop the scroll to stare at them.

I went with Miller Cat on my taco. Anything to convince the bad guys to move on to an easier target.
