2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad

I just purchased a 2017 Taco, and these were on the bed rails. Anyone know what they are for? Maybe topper mounts? I removed them when I put on a tonneau cover. The silver brackets had to be removed, and the others just seemed in the way with the bed cover.
