I Have a 2020 Tacoma and it has everything I wanted except I couldn't find one with the 6-speed manual. I'm looking at converting it to a manual bot I'm not sure how easy or difficult that would be. Does anyone know of major panels or anything on the auto version that is totally different in the manual?

How involved would the swap be? how expensive do you think it would be? anyone with info on this would be great. it's all speculation right now but I want to check out my options. Thought maybe some of you would have the first-hand experience.

    Thanks!

Listen, Guys, by the time I could even actually do this it WOULD NOT be a new truck anymore. I said it was all speculation atm anyway I don't have the cash and I don't want to void the bumper to bumper warranty. 3 Years minimum until this gets set in motion aight?? I repeat, by the time this is done IT WILL NOT BE NEW ANYMORE. I Like to prepare and if I can figure everything necessary than I'd like to do that. thank you to everyone who gave actual advice and not "BrO JusT SeLl AnD BuY a mAnUal" ok like 50 ppl said that you can stop now.

I also would like to add i genuinely did not expect this to be so dividing and apologize to anyone who now thinks I'm a moron? I just thought the conversation would be interesting and I might learn a bit. Didnt actually know how outlandish this would sound? Especially considering what some other people have done to their trucks, I thought this was mild.

I just finished doing this on a 2nd gen. Should be basically the same on a 3rd gen.

Was it pretty plug-and-play? gut the old tranny and shifter then plug in the new one with a clutch pedal? I'm also thinking about the computer, the 3rd gen is a little more technically advanced, especially the Limited.

No guarantee that the electronics will play nicely with the swap, especially if you have a push button start.

Id be interested to see if it can be done though.

cost wise would depend on whats available. 3rd gen has been long around enough that prob has enough in scrap yards to get parts. See if you can find a new wrecked one.

Yea, I mean that’s the general gist of it. But there’s a lot of little details.

On the 2nd gen the ECM needs to be swapped but it was plug and play. You’d have to research the various versions and see what you need. Then review the wire diagrams to see if everything is plug and play.

like the clutch master cylinder and plumbing it, drive shaft length ,tranny cross member fitment, a new consul that is specific for a manual stick, getting reverse lights to work and that's just what pops into my head am sure the list goes on. i am getting a headache thinking about doing that.

Why did you purchase auto and not just wait for a manual?

Yup. That’s most of it. A lot of those things are pretty small jobs.

And like someone else mentioned about the push to start. Since no Tacoma with Manual Trans has push to start, you would need to know how to re-program all that stuff in the ECU. Cant just switch out the ECU from a Manual truck. Sounds like more trouble then its worth and the cost to convert it, will be insane. The more realistic scenario would be to sell that Auto and buy a Manual. Just my opinion.

may be something to consider if you had 2 salvage trucks to tinker with, but not a brand new 2020!

cant you just convert the Auto trans to a Semi Auto trans by manually shifting the auto trans?
