Looking at my options here and I was curious if anyone is running aftermarket coil lift springs on their stock factory shocks as a cheaper compromise to a complete aftermarket coilover setup?

I would be looking at putting these on the 3RD GEN TRD Offroad factory fronts coupled with rear lift blocks, about a 2 inch lift would be the all around goal.

I ask because our FJ Cruiser has front leveling coils on the factory fronts which added lift, but that is a different earlier system.

Pics of your setup or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Since we're all here to learn, I sent Wheeler's this same question about their T2 coil springs and I'll share what I find out. :)

It's going to top out your shock over compress the spring and just generally be an awful ride all around, probably feel like you have solid suspension up front and give you effectively no lift.

    Also it's not Friday? o_O

Heavier spring without compensating on the shock = gonna ride like shit.

I have Eibach 1.5” lift coils on TRD Pro Fox front shocks. Rides like stock. Konig Countersteer Type X 17x8 -10 w/ 275/70/17 KO2.

That's kinda what I was thinking but based upon positive past experience with the stiffer FJ Cruiser leveling springs, I had to ask.

I’m late to the party, but I think the OP needs to better define “lift springs” before anyone makes assumptions about the result. Aftermarket springs vary in length and spring constant. A spring that is longer but has the same spring rate will lift the truck without affecting ride quality beyond the loss of down travel. However it might be cheaper to just use a small spacer.

Ok, so back in the day, on the FJ Cruisers people were putting these springs on their stock shocks to add lift and level the front suspension (Also people in turn were using the FJ Cruiser takeoff springs to boost their own Tacomas). So I was basically asking if there was a similar coil spring swap solution 3RD Gen owners were using on their later Tacomas, new springs or otherwise.20220607_224327.jpg

Yes - see my message above. Have Eibach 1.5" lift springs on my OEM TRD Pro shocks. Rides better than stock and is lifted 1.5".

    Nice, looks good.

I originally "googled" this question before starting this thread and nothing immediately came up, but I figured not only I but others may have wondered if there was this in between coil swap solution, better than a spacer kit but less than a full lift system.

I ultimately went with the TRD Lift Kit $$$, but there may be others on a budget who could benefit from a basic coil spring swap on their existing Toyota factory shocks.

    And thank you.:)

Yes there are many aftermarket coil springs on the market from manufactures like ARB and Eibach. They come in different lengths and stiffnesses. I think there are also some differences in the shape of the ends on the springs that limits which shocks they are compatible with.

Here’s are a couple links to get you started.

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p250/Old_Man_Emu_Lift_Coils_-__Various_Lift_Heights_Available_(PAIR).html

    http://accutuneoffroad.com/articles/coilover-spring-rates-for-toyota-tacoma-4runner/

The stock springs were reported to be 717 lb/in.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...2016-tacoma-presented-by-toytec-lifts.395798/

    And 14.25” (362mm) long.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/stock-spring-length-do-these-things-ever-wear-out.533831/

Keep in mind that the Tacoma IFS has a 2-1 motion ratio thus a 15.75” 717 lb/in spring would increase ride height by 3” Please double check my math and referenced data.

3” is too much on a 3rd gen as it leaves you with 0 down travel. Shoot for 1-2”.

What is the total lift height? Im looking to replace my TRD Off road suspension with the PRO suspension. Someone in my area is selling theirs with 15k miles on it for a pretty good price. But it would effectively lower my front because I have a spacer lift installed that lifts the truck to 3”. I would like to keep the height.
