It looks like the lock body moves with the tailgate, does the lock mechanism rub on any part of the truck or hinge when the tailgate opens and closes? I really like this, I'm just a little concerned with it causing rust if it rubs on the tailgate hinge. It may be as simple as adding grease to the contacting surfaces.

Received and installed the lock today, first quality and great insurance against theft. Lock was a little tight but a few taps with a dead blow rubber faced mallet was all it took for the lock to latch.

You should not have needed a hammer. You should be able to wiggle the lock as it has to lock into the hole on the bracket and so turning it a little in a circular motion back and forth should have allowed it to lock into the hole. :)

Sorry, this was not working, had to use the soft faced dead blow, way too tight on my truck. I looked at it many different ways, including using my caliper to check tolerances, needed to be coerced down. Very happy with the lock and it is a quality product that I highly recommend.

I just installed mine. Took a few minutes & looks good. A video maybe helpful. Took longer to figure out that the plastic tailgate skin sits on top of the lock than the actual install & clean up process.

    Great looking product.

Just installed mine. It probably took less than 1 minute. Great product, great fit and finish.

The only trouble I had was that I had to make sure I pushed the lock down far enough for the tang to engage the hole. First attempt to put it in place I was able to pop it back up (didn't engage).. Put it back in place, gave it a wiggle + downward pressure and it clicked in.

I put 1 key in my safe with all my spare keys, and 1 key in the plastic bag with the rear camera plug in the glove box.

@scleaf is there any downside to trimming the lip/edge of the tailgate cover that the lock sits under so that the lock could be installes and removed without having to remove screws in order to lift the plastic tailgate cover?

From my perspective I don't want anybody to have to trim something on their truck to install the lock. The tab on the bushing is kind of benign and if they every want to remove the lock they can replace the bushing if desired for a few bucks. Loosening the fasteners is easy.

Finally got mine Yesterday, after bouncing around California, Torrance, Los Angeles, San Francisco then Oakland, it arrived to me in Hawaii 2 weeks late. Thanks to @scleaf for continually checking up on it since the USPS lost it for awhile or something. But it fits like a glove. And I have a early production model 2016 (12/2015) so no problems there. I am happy that I am protected for the many years to come that I plan on owning this Taco and it is a thousand times nicer then my radiator hose clamp!D56B8F32-ABF1-4802-A9B8-0B76DCF696D1.jpg
