3rd Brake Light Flicker

    Was hauling a load last night and it blocked my 3rd brake light. This allowed me to notice that it's flickering/flashing when I apply the brake. I don't have any mods installed, it's a stock light. It immediately flashes 3 times (twice rapidly, followed by a 3rd shortly after), then every 5 seconds this repeats like clockwork. Any idea what might be causing this?

    1st gen - it's got a built engine, a turbo, and waaaaaaay too much to list. 3rd gen - basic-bitch lift, S/C, Pro Wheels
    It's a module installed in-line of that light only. It's designed to do that. A lot of dealers will install them and then upcharge for it because it's a "safety" feature to make you more noticeable when you hit the brakes. I run one on my crotch rocket, but not on anything else.

    If you bought it at a dealer then they did a decent job at sliding that through and you didn't notice, and paid extra for it.

    I bought this during the pandemic straight off the trailer. There were no additional add-ons that I'm aware of. At that time dealerships didn't have to add anything to sell a truck, they were charging extra for demand. I have a full list of details somewhere with what was included, and if they could have charged me extra for this, they would have.

    it also violates FMVSS 108, as it constitutes an alteration to the functionality of a safety lamp, but most dealers don't seem to care because PROFIT.

    If cops did their job more maybe the people being conned into paying for these will actually get them to stop...maybe make some money back in the process. Nothing a lawsuit can't hash out and drive a definitive precedent.


    Although I will say, having the flashing brake light on a motorcycle I think is a good idea. It makes you much more obvious to otherwise inattentive drivers.

    My 2019 bought in November of 19 had this feature too. nothing on the buy, build sheet. at first I thought it was a bad connection at the brake switch, and even replaced it. but, the cycling of the strobes are rhythmic so... Someone added something at some point. Ski
