Hey all, to start - I've done a lot of searching to find answers to this questions and all my research points to the fact that these tires can fit, assuming you have the correct offset.

I came into a set of 33x12.5x15 Toyo Open Country MT's for free - hard to beat that price... there is a long story there but I won't bore you with the details.

Currently my 97 ext cab Tacoma is sitting at stock height on all stock suspension components. Needless to say, it's tired and needs to be upgraded so I am going to be purchasing bilstein/eibach for the front and billstein + add-a-leaf (or dakars if I can afford it) for the rears.

I use my truck for hunting, fishing remote mountain lakes, 4x4ing, snow wheeling. This truck see's maybe 6000 miles a year, it's essentially a toy for me. I work from home and never commute with the truck, it's basically all play.

Now, she is no beauty queen and I'm not opposed to cutting, folding etc to make this work - I've done research on the pinch weld mod and will likely being doing this if I put these tires on.

I'll be buying 8" wide rim with 3.75" backspacing - likely the summit racing specials.

My question for those of you running 12.5" wide tires, how bad is the rubbing? I've seen a number of you running this setup... some of who looks like they use their trucks as trucks. Am I better off selling these tires and getting 10.5" wide?

My 4x4'ing style is not mudding or really much rock crawling. I like to explore the millions of km's of logging roads we have in BC but often times this includes driving through deactivation ditches and the truck will get flexed out but I would not consider myself a 'hardcore' wheeler.

    Any feedback greatly appreciated.

you'll be fine on the street but if you get too flexed out it'll rub pretty bad. these trucks were never meant to run a 33x12.5r15 so of course you'll be rubbing something when off roading but if you're game to trim and beat on some shit then I think you'll be fine for most of the range of wheel travel. when you crawl or come across an obstacle that you know will flex you pretty well, take it slow. you'll rub, but slightly and low speed will minimize damage.

and at least you got the backspacing right. that's kind of key here.

3" Toytec spacers, Bilstein 5100s in the back with add a leaf and overloads removed.
I have 33 12.50r18 toyos with 4.5" of backspacing n my wheels. They rub at full lock and rub the rear when flexed out a good bit. Hit a bump while turning too quick they scrub the inner fender

Which why I'll always stand by 15x8 on 3.75" backspacing. No rubbing the frame, upper control arm, or wheel well with the correct alignment when daily driving.

Thanks for the feedback guys, think I'll stick with the tires. I think trying to sell them and find a pair of 10.5's would be far too much a hassle.

I saw that expeditions west link last night, exactly what I'll be doing.

    Cheers.
