So I just put a 3 inch lift on my 2nd gen and I'm in the market for new tires. I currently run the Ko2s which I like except they are 265/70. I want 33s but don't want to re gear or lose a ton of power. Is this possible or a bad idea?

Totally doable, I run the 285 70 17 KO2s in C load 51 lbs, get great mpg, no loss of power, get around 20mpg on the Hwy with a lift, canopy, winch.
They look awesome, I picked up 5 like new ones off a jeep guy who went to 37s right away.

33-inch tires are certainly possible, as Dave mentioned. Just be mindful that additional modifications may be needed, like the CMC, depending on the wheel dimensions.

285 75 16. The tires weight around 56 pounds. The wheels around 18 pounds. I feel no power loss but I did loose some mpg. I'm not sure how much. Not a lot. I have trimmed some but I still rub in certain situations. The -25 offset on the wheels have a lot to do with that. Stick around a zero offset wheel and you are golden.

Thank you!! It's the FN 5 star wheels. I am pretty stoked on this whole set up.

No, if you stick with the C load it’s fine. If you have to do a cmc it’s no big deal, an hour at a good off-road shop for the most part, it’s cheap and if they are pros you won’t even notice it.

Dumb question but will I need wheel spacers or does it depend on width?

Wheel spacers would only be needed if you kept the stock wheels or wheels with to much of a positive offset. It just needs to be offset enough to not touch the upper control arms.

    255/85/R16 are what you seek.

Are you running the stock rims or aftermarket?

I'm running stock rims with 2.5" of lift on 255/85/R16 with no rubbing.

At one time I ran spacers with that same setup and rubbed at full travel.

Here's my 3rd gen on 3" lift w/ c-range 285/70/17 ridge grapplers. CMC no re-gear. (also FN 5-stars just like @banditcamp -- love these wheels and unlike those *other* guys these wheels are actually in stock!). MPGs aren't great but honestly no hugely noticeable performance hit other than that. Also worth noting that the MPG hit was most significant when I chopped the bumper and threw the steel one on... hardly any difference between where I was at then and after the lift and wheels.

Wheel well size is smaller on the 2nd gen compared to the 3rd gen. This is why some guys on TW have been able to run 255/85/R16 on stock 3rd gens.

Yeah if you go with 255s that changes everything. Skinner is gonna rub less in most situations period. The reason I didn't go that route was the only 255s I could find were a MT tire and I wanted AT. Plus all the 255s I was looking at were more expensive that the tires in 285s. Also @Extra Hard Taco is your profile picture Lance Mountain?

what wheels are you running now? 0 offset is the easiest to work with but -10 is still really easy, it really takes hardly any effort to make 285s work, plus 285s look really good, way better than stock.

I have FN 5 stars with a -25 offset. I feel that aggressive offset makes the tires look bigger and on a closer to stock wheel. It may be just because they poke out more and I know some people don't want them to poke but I love the way my truck looks and performs.
