Help me decide between 33s and 35s. Mainly a daily commuter but I do go off the beaten path for work at least once a week. The question is what can the truck take as far as reliability goes. I’m regearing either way. 10 years ago I ran 37s and eventually went to 38s and it was a nightmare. Fun to drive till I was replacing wheel bearings every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. Granted that size and weight of tire was a lot for the truck. So are 35s still pushing it or is the wear and tear kept to a minimum with mainly street driving.

Get you some Kenda Klevers, they are all the rage! 68lb 35" skinny! Minimal work to fit. Setup with the right combo can weigh less than a set of 33's and heavy alloy wheels.

I was looking at either the yokohama geolander g003 or the k02. Heard the g003 is awesome on the street for it being a mud terrain and I know the k02 is basically a street tire. Both seem light and to have good tread wear

We both know it isn’t gonna look right with anything but 37s.

I ran 35s for 10 years on my 3rd gen 4runner and went to 34” (285/75R17) Toyo Open Country AT3s about 5 months ago. I love them, they’re the perfect size for a mid size Toyota truck that isn’t a full time rock crawler. Great balance of off road capability, snow traction, height, road manners, power, and minimal wear to the drivetrain.

Can't comment on 35's but I recently made the switch from Cooper ST MAXX to KO2 and it's a night and day difference. Granted I switched from a E load to C load so comfort has improved obviously, but the KO2's are so damn quiet, better off road traction so far, and I've had zero issues in the rain like others have said. Very happy with them. I would not say they're a street tire by any means... That's crazy talk unless you're comparing them to some Super Swampers LOL.

Well I did have m16 swappers on my last Tacoma. It was their “all terrain” tire

    Like, so many.
Did you regear for that? I've got 33s currently, but I'm thinking of going to 34s, but I don't want to regear. I do have a tune though.

I think If you have to ask then 33s will be fine for you. With some good wheeling experience, 33s can get you pretty far. Now if you just want 35s and are trying to justify them, don’t. Life is short, go for 35s if that’s what you want.

As for Reliability, it can be subjective because it’s all about the weight you’re pushing. Some 33 setups Can weight more or similar to 35s. Really just depends on your wheel/tire combo. Someone mentioned kendas in a 35x10.5 size. That’s a good alternative too.

No regear. I've only been on these tires 200 miles/3weeks. I dont drive much.

285/70/17 and 285/75s is a solid 1.1" taller. Very noticeable. Going 285/70s you'll have buyers remorse.

34s seem to be hard to find for a 16” rim. I guess 17s are a more popular rim size
