I will be due soon to bring my 2016 4 Cylinder Tacoma SR in for its 30K maintenance. I have heard that the 30K maintenance entails more than the usual work and is sometimes pricey depending on the dealer. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share what they were charged by the dealer for this maintenance work? Also, has anyone purchased the ToyotaCare Plus maintenance plan and would this be a good option to help pay for the 30,000 mile maintenance costs? Your info is greatly appreciated.

Much cheaper if you purchase ToyotaCare Plus. I went that route as I live in an apartment and don't have the space to do everything myself. Although that didn't stop me from installing a full suspension in the parking lot.

I remember I handed them the keys to my truck and they gave me the total of over $700, when I heard that I ask for my keys back and left the dealership.

Yea, check out this guys quote

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/30k-service-quote.523937/

OP, in the thread linked there are pics from the manual showing what needs to be done at that interval. Also, my dealer said that even with the extended toyotacare plan, it still didn't cover air filters, so basically it covers oil change and tire rotation. Not worth it for me.

Yea all that shouldn’t even be over $200, dealerships are highway robbery for service. Paddle your own canoe when it comes to maintenance.

My dealer quoted $217 for the full service, which is basically an oil change, tire rotation, and pulling a few fill plugs on the driveline.

Definitely more than that for my '17 TRD offroad.

It's basically an oil change, air filter replacement and tire rotation.

About 1.5 hours of time and $100 in parts AT MOST. Tire rotation can be done by self or a tire shop. One down the street from me does rotations for free.

CYA measure so they can check a liability box after the Idiots in a Prius debacle.

That's to get you in the door. Once they have it on the rack, they'll call back with the rest of the stuff they're supposed to do in addition to a bunch of BG upsells.

Nobody quotes the actual 30K price over the phone because nobody wants to pay 3+ hours of work at a dealership.

That said, I always recommend changing your fluids at the severe service interval before waiting the standard interval. All the metal particles from the initial break-in are just floating around in there and that first service is IMO the most crucial for longevity.

I couldn't wait for the TC visits to be done, but the dealer reminded me that I get two free partial services for buying the Taco there. They tried to sell me the rest of the 30k service, I told them that I had already cross rotated the tires and the rest would be done at home. They are not bad as dealers go, but scheduling and waiting is not fun. Wrenching is fun.

Not to mention that this is my first pickup and servicing it without needing ramps is a sheer joy.

Yeah. I did an oil change at 5k because I was bored and the driveline fluids at 7k because there were some odd UOAs about the OE MT fluid. I am surprised how long it takes for the engine oil to darken on this motor. It barely changes by the time that 10k is near.

This is the result of an unintended acceleration that happened on the 06-07 models. The gas pedal got hung up on the floor mat that shifted forward and got stuck open. Floor mats didn’t have tabs to hold them in place. This happened a few times to me but I thought little about it until the recall was announced. Toyota had to settle because the issue was real and they’ve been obsessed with floor mats ever since.

But in the end, it was total stupidity and no situational awareness for both the drivers and the techs. Hell, growing up, my folks used to jam in cheap, rubber back door mats / carpet remnants in the footwells. I certainly knew that I lost some accelerator pedal travel with the extra thickness and we were carefully where the mats were. Not jamming anything up.

Come the 21st century, everyone forgot everything about the act of driving. Most folks I know struggle to find the hood release. Sure, 10k maint intervals, 100k 'tune ups,' and 250k+ life spans are nice, but it means that we lost the basic skills.

Sure, the mat check box is a nice reminder, but dayum . . .

Not too long from now, a full service might just be a floor mat check, tire rotation, and a check of the battery pack coolant.

Even after all this BS, blue hairs still end up plowing half way through nail salons and 7-11s all too often.

    I'm off the soapbox now.
