Hoping some of the board's gurus can chime in with their experience.

I'm considering using a 6.5 + 4 + Tweeter combo using the 6.5 in the rear doors and the 4 in the front door. Seems like a logical setup with the bonus of being able to spend more on one quality set versus purchasing a 2-way pair for the front and an extra set of 6.5 coax's or components for the rear.

Since bass isn't directional like highs, am I on track? Or would you not recommend this path.

BTW, I'm running a Pioneer DEH-80PRS, which has pretty nice tune-ability, so was planning on using the HU for crossover duties.

3 way setup works well in tacomas,
But it has to be setup, powered and tuned correct

My goal is to make the most out of factory mounting locations.

What do you have in mind for "setup"?

Well, you'd have to either get ur tweeters in the A-pillar or sail pan

That's not too bad I suppose. I definitely don't want kick panels that are in the way or some crazy fiberglassed panel. A clean hole in a sail panel would be doable.

Would you use a rear fill?

Thanks for the responses, but I'm thinking this is a slippery slope of audio mods I don't want to get into. Probably over thinking things.

Rear fill is one of those things if you like it or not. Personally I hate rear fill as it messes up sound staging.

Yeah, I think no matter how much you read, plan, etc, in the end you're going to have to experiment.

i personally don't use rear fill, I can't really hear the music from back there anyways ( BASS)
i am however transitioning over more from a BIG SPL build down to a more SQ oriented setup, Now grants its still not what id call an sq step but in comparison it won't sound near as good as my rav
